Removing a trunk lock cylinder

Post by A_Tame76 on Sun Jul 12, 2009 4:03 pm

Im hoping someone has already done this on their car. I have a 76 Malibu. Im sure all the parts are the same, but Im wondering what the best way is to remove the lock cylinder from the trunk lid is? I know there is a retainer clip that holds it on, but Im not sure how to access it to slide it out of the way. Any suggestions or photos would help. Thanks in advance.

im not sure on yours but on my 70 theres a screw that you remove then slide the clip down and pull the lock cylinder out then the clip comes out.

I used a screwdriver but it was a long time ago i dont really remember how i did it. but no special tools are needed. i think theres 2 bolts on the underside of the trunk lid take them loose and remove the clip/retaner. cant remember. scratch

nope its just one lil screw at the bottom of trunk lid you will see it thats what holds the clip stationary in turn securing the lock in place

I think I see where that little screw was supposed to be. Theres just an empty hole now. I still can't seem to get the clip to slide out or come loose. It appears that the outer piece where the one screw is supposed to be, is connected to the clip on the inside of the trunk on the back side of the lock cylinder. I'm just not sure if I'm doing it right.
