Sold for $37,000. That's right. 3 zeros. Thirty Seven Thousand Dollars.
Highest sale of the day.

I am not sure Barrett Jackson is a good barometer of real world values.
There is so much dealer to dealer selling each year that escalate the pricing.
The dealers bring the same cars back each year with hopes that some Joe Blow will jump in and buy at these inflated prices.

It would be interesting to know the story behind the car.
It claims to be all original but the under hood has been selectively restored.
It's probably fair to assume the rest of the car is restored.

It looks like a very nice car.

Thanks -

I think BJ is BS as far as real world value.
I'm just impressed that:
A. A G3 was even on the docket at BJ.
B. It's a very nice example, either preserved or restored. Which is fairly rare.
C. That it got a lot of bids
D. That it went for 40k with fees. I expected half that at best.

I do think it's an indicator as to were the value of G3s is headed. I don't know if that's good or bad.
On Ebay, the G3 Olds specialties (Hurst, 442) always seem to sell higher than the other GM cars.

I'm often asked what G3s are worth. I have no idea. I'll see one on ebay that I think is worth 5k and it will sell for 15. I'll see a really nice one on CL priced at 5k (which looks like a steal to me) sit there for months and months with no apparent interest.

What I am sure about is that prices have probably doubled in the last 5 years on some models.

By that I mean that what would've been a 4k car a few years ago is now more like 8. And the Laguna, Monte BB, Hurst, GTO,  etc are all commonly above 10k now when you couldn't give them away a few years ago.

Love that car with exception of the vinyl top. Always looked like an afterthought,

Looks like it's worth every dollar. Seems like these H/O's are the ones people want, they (or Mecum...I can't remember) sold a black 75 last year for around $50,000 & Linda Vaughn wasn't even involved! pirat

This is the highest G3 that I am aware of. BJ or one of them had a 75 442 roll across the auction last year. they talked it up and it sold for 17k. The announcer thought because it was a 75, still had the CAT and not a true dual is why it stalled out at 17. If anyone gets Hemmings MM they list auction results. They list about 2 G3's a year. I can't recall seeing one fetch over 20 on there.

Technically, aren't all Hurst products really afterthoughts...

Those auctions always seemed to me to be a bunch of rich guys swapping cars with each other !

Other than that, most of those cars wont see the road anyway, and just be in a "collection"....

I've heard that people will run their cars to see if someone will pay a stupid amount and end up buying it back if they don't get what they want. Seems like a big risk but BJ is no reserve and the fee is just the part of the gamble. I'm not a Cutlass guy but that is a nice car.
