Introduction Paparoni

Post by Paparoni on Fri Sep 30, 2016 2:10 pm

Hi

I'm Paparoni, new member from IL, just another old guy who wishes he knew then what he knows now. Hooked on A and F bodies. Current A body is a 76 El Camino, F body 81 Z-28. Loved A bodies since I purchased my first new Malibu in 1977. My current El Camino is a two tone, lime green and white with white interior and buckets, couldn't pass her up. Looking for the right Laguna too. I've checked out your Forums over the years and look forward to being a member. "A tough day working on the car is always better then a good day at work".

I'm a huge F-body guy too. I've had 5 in the last 8 years. I was on my way for another one when my 75 Malibu popped up and I wanted to try something new. They are different and don't have a huge following but it is nice to know I don't blend in to the crowd. Here are the F-body cars I've had.
1979 Z28. The first car I restored from bottom up.

1980 Z28. Bought this one on ebay just like this. I miss this car.

1978 Y88 Trans Am. Took this one on my first powertour.

1980 RS. Saved this one from a kid that was about to ruin it.

1975 Firebird. This one was a fun one. I has a 94 LT1 in it from a wrecked vette.

Welcome.
I always liged the cragar wheels like on your elcamino. But ive been worried about buying some. I fear that they will be hard to get on straight enough that the car wont Shake at High speed. I like driving fast and i hate when the steering wheel shakes on a long drive. Even a little is anoying. So how are the to ride on? Are they just ok or is it a little shakey at High speed. Anyways welcome from Europe. Love your camaro too by the way

Haven't had any problems, but haven't run her past 85 mph. They are uni lug and use a mag shank lug with a washer. The wheel stud holes are slotted allowing them to fit 5x4-1/2" or 5x 4-3/4" bolt patterns. There a little difficult to reinstall, you need to get them all started first to align them correctly.

Bought it from a vette collector who brought it back from California and it's orig owner. drove it little over the years. He repainted it the factory color about two years before I bought it. He had no intention to sell it until another vette he had his eye on became available. It was a customer order per the build sheet I found on the back of the drivers upper door panel. The underside looked like the day it rolled off the line. I've POR15ed the underside and frame. Pulled the faded carpet POR 15ed the floor pan and replace the carpet, sent the seat belts out to be rebuilt with new matching webbing. She had a few bad relays needed some gaskets, pretty normal items for a 40 year old. Rides like a Caddy.

Ok then ill Think about it again. I love the look of the cragars. I once bought a used set with the slotted holes and i could not get them aligned proberly. They had a bad Shake at 50 mph. So i took them off and bought a new set of alloy american racing wheels. But i am kind of tires of looking at them. Anyways it is hard to find someone that can balance tires on us rims here in Copenhagen. Most are used to European cars and wont do us cars, or do them but dont know how to do it right. Welcome once again

Welcome, Paparoni!  Good to see another Illinoisan here!

LOVE the colors of both of your vehicles ... the El Camino & Camaro.  Actually, love both of your vehicles, for that matter. Wink
