Tubular control arms
Do any of you guys run tubular controls arms in the front? If so what brand.

Re: Tubular control arms
I used Detroit Speed. Seems to be high quality parts. One thing that I like about them is that they use factory style ball joints. It will make it easier to find if they ever have to be replaced. They also have a stainless steel cross shaft with grease fittings in the bushings.

All that I have found are Detroit speed or global west.

Re: Tubular control arms
After all these years I still haven't been able to make myself spend the money for tubular control arms up front. Honestly, I would upgrade the bushings in the stock ones and use them until it looks like you are exceeding the ability of the stock design. They are a proven piece and have shown to stand up to the weight of a heavy car.

I'm not planning to get them real soon, just looking to see what other have used

Re: Tubular control arms
I agree with using the factory control arms. There are a lot better places to spend your money. I used the Detroit Speed arms because I built a prostreet car and I wanted the"wow" factor when I opened the hood.

Where can I get good bushings

Re: Tubular control arms
What do you want the car to do? There are stock rubber bushings for regular driving, poly and stiffer bushings that offer cornering stability, you can get bushings that exert no resistance to up and down travel like the del a lum bushings that are almost like having roller bearings in the arms.

I definitely don't want a stock ride. I want more stuff and responsive, I looked at the global west bushings for the control arms. I might just do that with off set a-arm shafts

Re: Tubular control arms
I've got a set of energy suspension bushings and bump stops if you want them. I just have to double check the part number...

I have a QA1 tubular upper and lower control arms. I'll start posting more on my instrgram in a few weeks. 73_malibu_454

Re: Tubular control arms
I am looking into this option as well. 70-81 F body shows to have alot more options. which is the same correct?

I've heard that they are the same but I am still hesitant to buy something not specifically stated to fit our cars.

Agreed. My worry would be that even if it only varies a little, it would totally screw up the suspension geometry.

Re: Tubular control arms
I guess the best thing to do may be to try and find a set of stock 70-81 f body stuff and compare it.

I installed Speedtech front upper and lower control arms recently (Spring 2017)
with the Viking DA Hybrid coil-over setup.

Are you getting the front end travel you need? I assume this a drag car?

Front end travel is same as stock. The coil over hybrid system allows me to adjust front end ride height.
This is a street car, tubular control arms are not drag car exclusive.

I know they arent drag exclusive, more wondering if the shock and spring give the travel needed to transfer the weight properly to get these heavy cars to move. Also wonder how much weight savings there is vs the stock stamped units.

Re: Tubular control arms
Incase anyone is wondering, I decided to keep the stock control arms, got new bushings and new global west offset a-arm shafts to get better geometry. What painted would you guys recommend painting this with, I don’t have money to get powder coated just spray can
