565 dyno results

Post by bracketchev1221 on Thu Jun 01, 2017 11:17 am

Well, the 565 I was building for my Chevelle was run yesterday on the dyno just to see where it wound up. A little background to it, its a 15:1 compression JE piston with Eagle L-19 bolt rods, Scat 4.25 crank, Dart 355 CNC heads, Edelbrock Super Victor intake and an 1150 Dominator. The cam was designed by Chris Straub at 282/290@.050 duration and .814/.798 lift. The engine was dynoed by Andy Jensen, of Jensen engine tech in Berwick PA. Anyway, we did a preliminary pull just to see what it would do so we ran it from 45-6800. We were surprised as the horsepower showed 964 and it was still climbing. We decided to let it run to 7500 and see how it did. Overall numbers turned out at

978 hp at 7200
793 tq at 5300

The torque is most impressive as it was between 785 and 793 from 5200 to 6200. All this for a 3200 lbs Chevelle. So yes big engines and long stroke engines can rev quickly and go to high rpm regardless of the myths that they can't. Very Happy

Wow, that's impressive! Did you get a chance to fine tune it and see if you could get more out of it? What kind of fuel can you run at 15:1 without detonation?

Yes, but I bet it takes some damned expensive parts to do it. Smile

Ray, thats awesome. If I ever have to buy another cam it will difinitely be from chris straub or howards. But leaning towards Chris.

It was run on 116 octane Sunoco race gas. We did change the jet a little based on the AFR but otherwise I moved the timing up and down and lost a few hp either way. The engine is pretty much done.

Ray.....WOW

That is definitely impressive, especially since its ALL motor.

How does it compare to the old motor/setup?

The 540 it's replacing was a little lower in compression, different ring set, and the cam was smaller. The 540 was 910 hp and 776 tq.

HOLY CRAP! That's some impressive numbers there sir. You say it's going in a 3200 pound Chevelle? Is it a 73-77 or an older one. Either way, it should make it fly!

This is going in the 70. My 76 Malibu and the 70 SS nova I had were both sold and this was the final project. I wanted to get the 70 into the 8's and then think about hanging it up.
