how restrictive are they REALLY??

Post by moneypit73 on Mon Mar 01, 2010 10:27 pm

welp, since im done farting around with the motor, with the possibility of a NOS kit mid summer, i wanna change the sound after ten yrs. ive had the same flo pro 2.5 mufflers on there, dumped at the axle. now i either want to run tailpipes, turned out behind rear tire, similar to GN,s, or switch mufflers an do the same. im really leaning toward the old tried an true glass packs. love em. sounds like a offshore motor boat at full song!!! yyyeeeaaa. but its really not a " performance" car. runs 14s. whoppee. cant afford 80.00 flowmasters, as that would be first choice, an i want it neihbor pissed off loud. people have said that they are super restrictive, but i dont see how. its a straight through muffler.????? can it really hurt a high 14 sec stump??

Don't forget the Echo Chambers! (redneck slang for overly large tips that increase sound)

I'm probably one of the few that will agree cherry bombs sound good on our cars. I ran 2.5" dual glasspacks on my old 76 dumped in front of the axle. Sounded mean & resonated throughout the interior, lol. That was then & this is now though.

Check out the Summit fully welded mufflers. I just got them & they look to be pretty free flowing, chambered, & cheap. I got a thread here showing a decent shot of the inside:
http://www.g3gm.com/engine-driveline-f5/summit-fully-welded-mufflers-t1522.htm?highlight=summit

There's no packing or anything like that, just chambers, so i expect some "pissing off the neighbors" noise. Here's a couple of videos I found:

If I had more $$$ to spend, I would have went with Hooker Maxflows. Oh well, maybe next time. Another option is the Moroso Spiral flows or like alowerlevel said, Dynomax Bullets. Loud is good!

Dynomax bullets? They sound loud enough for my taste. Bullets are the straight through race muffler that look like glasspacks. Maybe you are thinking of one of their other mufflers?
