COURAGE
Courage
You're a 19 year old kid.
You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam .
It's November 11, 1967.
LZ (landing zone) X-ray.
Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in.
You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out.
Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again.
As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.
Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter.
You look up to see a Huey coming in. But ... It doesn't seem real because no Medi-Vac markings are on it.
Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you.
He's not Medi-Vac so it's not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway.
Even after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come.
He's coming anyway.
And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board.
Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety.
And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm.
He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey.
Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise , Idaho .
May God Rest His Soul.
I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we've sure seen a whole bunch about Michael Jackson, Tiger Woods, and Haiti.
Shame on you American Media!

A touching news story. A lot of good men did not make it back. I make a motion that instead of sending kids, who come back as men, if they come back, Send the politicians who could care less about who comes back,. JB

Re: COURAGE
It's good to know some people care enough to spread this stuff. The liberal media damn sure won't. It wasn't edgy enough or there was no scandal involved. I'd like to see Americans go back to being more traditional. What ever happened to mom's baked apple pie, homosexuality being wrong, men getting dirty while women cleaned house, & much more? Well, now mom doesn't cook homemade food because it's all available at the store in the frozen isle, homosexuals have ruined something sacred (marriage), men and women are slowly swapping roles, & no one can say anything about it without getting sued, fined, banned, or thrown in jail.
What have we done to ourselves?

Amen to that! I love this country & the people that protect it. We must still be doing something right though. This is the only country I know of with immigration problems.....

Thanks for sharing that story about our deceased hero. It's not the type of news that just pops up on Yahoo.

Re: COURAGE
Speaking of feeding our own... how come all of these upper class Americans are donating millions of $$$ to foreign countries during disasters, but during our own disasters it's fend for yourself? Thank God for FEMA or I know several people that would be homeless because of tornadoes & floods that happened in my area in the last two years. Even worse, we spend tax payer money in other countries but can't seem to use that same money to better ourselves? I didn't say to use my hard earned cash rebuilding a country that forks us for oil & would rather spit on the Stars & Stripes than say thanks.
More & more of our resources are being outsourced to foreign countries & stores like Walmart won't even sell stuff made here. Hmmm....... why can't my wife or my brother find a job? I know why.
Sorry for the rant, I didn't mean to bring politics into this conversation.

Re: COURAGE
As far as immigration goes, that is a situation that we have made into a quagmire of our own making. I personally don't have any ill will against someone coming here to make a better life for themselves.
I do think that our security depends upon controlled immigration. We need to know who and how many are coming in and leaving. The nature of my work has me interacting with illegals all the time and the biggest "problem" I see is that there are grown men that haven't grown up. That isn't all that different from any other group.
The other main problem is that the nature of their status forces them to do other illegal things that they might not otherwise do. Make no mistake- I'm not for mass amnesty like Clinton did, but we do need enforcement of our current laws on a major scale.

Re: COURAGE
I'm all for a man & his family coming over here the legal way. It's how most of us are here today, right? What I am against is border jumpers & banana boat floaters. If you can't come invited, stay at home. Even worse is when they come here expecting us to learn their language, refusing to learn ours. My own family on my dad's side is comprised of immigrants from Italy, but we have learned to let most of our heritage go as generations pass. I'm a third generation American. I speak it & love it..... although I can cook a mean pasta, lol. On my mom's side we are all just a bunch of confederate flag flying hillbillies, so my fried chicken ain't too bad either, lol.

Re: COURAGE
The problem with illegals here is more because of the unscrupulous turds that hire the poor bastards for five dollars an hour, then pay no taxes, benefits etc. and pocket the extra cash for themselves.
Contractors here locally hire crews of hispanics for remodeling, roofing and car shops and they work 12 hours a day for about 50 bucks. The contractor and shop owner is charging the client for outrageous labor costs and pocketing the difference.
I don't blame the hispanics, they are working their cabooses off for very little, and the bosses are taking advantage of them. It's rampant in the horse and agricultural industries here. If the workers complain, they are threatened with INS and fired. At least they are trying to work, which is more than i can say for the rednecks around here who are "disabled". I run into it all the time.

Re: COURAGE
...... or welfare recipients.
Welfare.
I work hard paying taxes so you don't have to.
Can someone give me one legitimate reason for welfare existing? Disability covers people that are unable to work & unemployment covers people that have lost their job so what was welfare created for? Did some gov't worker decide that his lazy bum cousin needed a way to make money?
Disability is different though. It has good merits when not abused. OTOH, my daughter is legally blind & has intestinal problems from being born extremely premature. Our medical bills for her are outrageous, but yet she doesn't qualify as disabled. While some people simply tell their doctor they are depressed, get on meds, & qualify. Go figure.

Have you brought this up to your rep. or senator? Hand written letters are especially effective because your rep knows you have invested time in expressing yourself.
