so, i have a 455 from a 71 buick estate wagon that i was going to put in my 80 malibu wagon but, since seeing project blue collar on muscle car tv, im thinking about putting it in my 77 regal (since its becoming obvious thats no ones gonna buy it lol). anyone done this? id rather use headers than stock manifolds so, who sells cheap ones? i dont really wanna drop 6 bills on headers for it.

I guess I was thinking of something else because I couldn't find a lot of information for ya on here. I'll check into some stuff though. Shouldn't be hard at all since some of them came with big blocks from the factory. My guess would be to contact Summit for cheap headers.

thanks for looking! i didnt know any of the G3 buicks came with big blocks. i really liked seeing money pits car featured a couple weeks ago but now i REALLY like that 4door. i dont know why, its just badass. looks like it just has manifolds on it though. id rather not but if i have to, i guess ill just use the manifolds. the 455 was rated at 315hp/450tq. should motivate the regal much better than the 165hp/250tq 350.

Personally, I would rather have cast iron exhaust manifolds unless the engine is hopped up so much that it shakes all over when it is idleing. I do not like headers for several reasons, one of which is they dump all that excessive heat inside the engine compartment instead of carrying it under the car where the wind will take care of it. If you like noise, do it with a Flowmaster 40 series muffler or simular muffler. JB http://v8buick.com/index.php

1973 Buick GS 455 stage 1 was a bad MoFo. Very Happy

I think the 455 was only available in 73-74 models & possibly station wagons into 75-76? Going off of Oldsmobile common knowledge, you wouldn't have to change the motor mounts though. Since BOP shared most mounts & mounting points I'd have to say the same thing is true for Buick. I'd bet it will be a screamer since the Buicks are notorious for being lightweight & producing strong torque in factory specs. I'd even debate that a 70 Stage 1 would smoke a 70 LS6 stock for stock.

When you are searching for headers, our cars will accept ones from the early generation cars as well. I couldn't find much of a selection but TA Performance seems to have the cheapest at $435 for shorties or $475 for full length. I'd say keep searching on Ebay or RacingJunk for a deal to pop up.

it was proven i think in muscle car review that the stage one was in fact faster than the LS6 chevelle

headman or flowtech cant remember what one but they have short painted headers for $112 and long tube for like $200

They might work. The physical dimensions of the 350 and 455 are pretty close.

is the port spacing and such the same? everyone shows different part numbers for the 400/455 headers than the 350 Sad

Not sure on port spacing, but I'd assume they are different due to different part #'s. Best way to find out is measure what you already have. Set a BB manifold next to a SB manifold & check for differences. Measure out everything & report back.

I'm starting to wonder if fabbing a set of your own headers would be cheaper. Go buy a cheap set of BB Chevy headers, cut off the flanges, & weld up some Buick flanges. I guess that's a possible solution...... Idea
