Should there be a "Members Only" section?

Off topic can be whatever anyone wants to post. The problem , as I see it, is threads being hi-jacked, and topics turning away from the original post. We also have a problem with people hi-jacking threads instead of just starting a new one.
The BIGGEST problem we have is people who feel like they have to chime in on a topic with a negative opinion about what someone else says. It is not necessary to criticize someone else to express your own two cents. .
The thread the other day where Chris was pointing out an odd image in a picture is a good example.
No one needed to tell Chris what to do with his car. No one needed to comment at all. Read the thread and comment on the image he was talking about, or just move on to the next thread. No one needed to comment on what HIS kids do with HIS car. Unnecessary.
I'm sure there was no harm intended, but the fact remains that the whole thing went bad because of comments that had nothing to do with the thread.
A visitor to this site would see the results of that, and decide that this site was inhabited by a bunch of jerks, and move on elsewhere.
We understand the dynamics of the site, we know there are occasional disagreements between "regulars". Noobs or visitors would be turned off by those types of exchanges.
That thread could have been moved to a "members only" section. The battle could have continued, or the thread deleted/locked. Rago or Dan could then have dealt with the situation "behind closed doors". There have been sites that I checked out then stayed away from because of people constantly attacking others, instead of offering helpful advice.
Why would anyone sign up for abuse?
I'm not saying anyone was right or wrong in that thread, but it got way beyond what Chris intended when he originally posted.
Just some folks need to learn some manners, or move it to a more private area to keep visitors and potential members from thinking evryone here is an A$$.
It would also help current members by restricting stupidity to that area, while leaving the other sections for more "professional" postings. If you don't want to play rough, you could stay away from that section. Members who want to be silly could go there, mebers who just want onfo or to offer advice could stay in the "main" areas.
You bring up the thread that Chris started with the picture. Yes it got off the original Topic this would happen on ANY FORUM, Gathering, Chat room, pow wow, meeting, reunion, etc. Problem is that if anyone posts a picture of something along those lines and dont expect it to be asked about the content, then their just asking for trouble, not paying attention to what they are posting, or just plain dumb. I mean, thats like me walking into a gay bar without pants on and asking why my t-shirt is backwards. Do you not think Id be asked why I didnt have any pants on?
Nobody said that He could not or should not do what he wants to do with his family and cars, just stated that they would not do it with their own cars, but Im assuming thats not how it was taken. Chris decided to modify the picture to not show what the content that caused thread to get off topic, but then later deleted all his posts and pictures so I deleted the thread, it was useless bickering and I have my side on it. Bottom line is, You dont post controversial pictures that have content you dont want to be asked about.
Since the thread is gone I dont want to hear more about it. He can repost his modified picture if he wants or if he wants to answer why the content in the picture is what it is then thats up to him but negitive posts will be deleted from here on out and the poster will get notified. No ifs ands or buts about it.
I dont like private sections, even tho we do have one that only administrators can see. Its call the basket, its where every deleted thread or post goes to so it can be reviewed, discussed and whether or not to take action. I did not intend on being a babysitter when I started this forum, and im sure that Rago didnt either when he took the job. Limey is supposed to be here running the place also but we all know whats happened to that.

I would expect a place called "Hell Forum" to be a little rough. Pitchforks and fire and brimstone and stuff.

Thanks for the inspiring words. Dan is the only founder & owner of this site, but together with the help of Anthony & myself, we've really helped to create a forum by the people for the people. Not many troublemakers here & we'll keep it that way as long as people keep coming back to share their thoughts, feelings, & experiences with these great cars..... Oh yeah & pics. Lots of pics. With burnout vids & hot chicks sitting on the hood.

Well sir, you are correct. And I salute "The Exalted Green One" and that other guy that sounds like some sort of "Kansas Cowboy Spaghetti Sauce", for the time they put in and the patience they practice.
If you notice the date of the original posting, a page has turned and time has healed most wounds since then.
I do miss one former member however, I loved to drool over his parts stockpile. Plus he was just cool.
Ah, well, you can't please everyone I guess.
Amazing what a few virtual boots (cowboy boots perhaps?) in the *** will do to tone down some of the Keyboard Commando stuff.

Cowboy boots might have played some factor but you can be sure we had green ones on.
I miss the company of said member as well, but maybe one day he'll be back around. Good to see you're still popping your head in too RC. Hopefully we can get back to business as usual now that Winter is just around the corner & cold months always brings on cool projects.

Oh, I think it's safe to say I'll be around a little more now that most of the stupidity/post whoring has ceased.
Plus, I've got most of my summer project stuff done, so I'll be sitting here on my caboose poking these silly little buttons more often.
