I can't just convert...

Post by jrb75 on Fri Nov 19, 2010 11:22 am

my 75 taillight panels over to a 74 can I? I just like the styling better but after comparing mine to some junkyard pics I saw up here, that support behind it all has to be changed out too, don't it? I cant tell but, it wouldn't be as easy as a 1 day bolt in and out, would it?

Not gonna happen. Limey can chime in with more description, but basically you would have to cut out the entire rear panel from both cars including the trunk area. Would be a bigger PITA than just finding a 74 & selling the 75. If you don't care for the 75 tails, your only bolt in options are to switch to either a 76 or 77 tail or go custom.

Couple of custom ideas:

Thanks Rago, that's what I figured. As a matter of fact that's the pic that made me realize it wasn't gonna be just a bezel and tail panels swap. I wasn't sure if that back support panel was removable (within reason). I don't mind the 75 rear, just liked the 74 when I had one years back. Ido plan to switch the front over to a 74 and at least that's something I can do.

Ehh, I'm still just enjoying having another one again. Who knows maybe I'll just own more than one some day, maybe even a whole driveway full of em. Maybe, my automotive illiterate wife will also love having a bunch of Chevys around and....and....and, nevermind. pale No

Wow! First of all I didn't say easy. I said not to bad just alot of spot welds which = time. And by the way you don't have to remove any of the trunk just the tailpanel. I don't claim to know everything but I know about this cause we just did it a few months ago.

All your doing is spot welding back in place and seam sealing just like from the factory. Wire feed by the way
