Re: Caprice vs. Interceptor vs. Impala vs Charger
Remember Firestone town and country snows? Those friggin things made your car like a tank in the snow. I would like to see a new version.

I used to have a 1956 Oldsmobile 98, 4 door hardtop and we had 14 inches of snow and I drove around all day without getting stuck. It weighted probably over 4,000 pounds and it would just hunker down and go. Of course I knew HOW to drive in snow. JB

Best snow vehicle I've EVER had was a 93 S15 Jimmy 4 door. Then again, it had Interco STS all terrain tires on it. Those things literally cut into snow & ice. They also rode rough on dry pavement though.

LoL! Mine were decent on the highway, but around town forget about it. They felt like paddle tires when I was coming to a stop & had the noise to match. Wore down surprisingly slower than I thought & still had a lot of life left when I sold the truck.

BINGO.
It doesn't matter what the drivetrain is if you don't know HOW to drive in snow.
But ... since automakers have made it VERY clear that FWD is the ONLY drivetrain that can be driven in snow, I better be getting compensation for wasting my time waiting for accidents to be cleared ... accidents caused by FWD vehicles in the snow ... especially on days when I have NO problems getting home in my RWD CC.
Just sayin'.

I have a FWD Caddy, an '85. It's good in snow. But the small cars with FWD don't seem to do very good. My niece's VW will get stuck on 3" of snow.

Re: Caprice vs. Interceptor vs. Impala vs Charger
My daughter has a Volkswagon, forget model name, that is 4 wheel drive. Every time her or my son in law have to drive in deep snow they use the Volks instead of the Hyundai Sonata, but when they need to go on a long trip they take the sonata because it gets better gas milage and is more dependable. The Volks has not been a bad car, but when they drive in deep snow they always tear off (twice) a big plastic pan that covers something vital underneath and they have to buy a new one and is rather expensive. Back to the police cars in question, anybody think GM will actually bring out a RWD vehicle like a new Caprice anytime soon?

I think they will. Dont forget, for every cop version they sell they will sell 10 Taxi versions of the same car. I believe the only reason they did away with the 96 Impalas was because the government was bitching so much about gas milage. JB

Re: Caprice vs. Interceptor vs. Impala vs Charger
I believe the gas mileage thing is based on the average of all models from the mfgr. Maybe there were not enough small cars to make up an acceptable average gas mileage (?)

The new Caprice cop cars are out already, not all over but some places have them already. They are not selling it to the public(at least not yet) .
