1974 el camino console shifter question

Post by Sam_snead01 on Sun Feb 13, 2011 6:59 pm

I recently purchased a 74 el camino ss with a floor shifter. The lever is very hard to move. I disconected the cable from the lever and it shifted very smoother so I am assuming the problem is in the cable. The problem i am having is finding a new cable. Is there a place to get one? Do have to fabricate my own? Is there a b&m set up that will work with a factory console? any help would be great. Thanks

yea i know that could be for the better or worse....i guess i'll have to spend the money on the 70 dollar cable...just seems a little much for a shift cable

I think it would for it say it is 31.875 and the one ebay is 31" eye to eye center and if it went end to end it would account for the .875" if it dont work I will buy it from you if you order it from summit
