Re: WANTED: 1976 Chevrolet Laguna
Aluminum Vette wheel brigade marches on!In all honesty, I'd own a set of those wheels if they had dog dish/poverty/police caps. Just can't stand the derby caps is all.

Or you can talk about finding the needle in a haystack with a 305 in it from BFE.
There is always another one out there. It takes time, patience, and money to find the right car.

Went to look at this car tonight. It was truly all original; but it was in pretty rough shape - ESPECIALLY for $6500. The "mechanic" that was helping also had a '74 Laguna, but said it wasn't an S3...and that all the Laguna's were made in Canada.

Yeah, it was great. Got even better when he started pouring gas into the carb, then when it wouldn't start, said "hmm...it must be flooded". Then watched him squirt starting fluid into the carb while directly over the carb...with a lit cigarette. I backed away...
The "mechanic" said the car was worth $12-14k.
What good is "all original" if the headliner was chewed by a mouse, back of the car hit, bottom of the driver door gouged, rust in both rear quarters, flaking interior plastics, and a rotting dash?
Oh yeah, and apparently there were only 4500 Laguna's made in '75.

I have always heard a 75 production figure of around 9500...

Re: WANTED: 1976 Chevrolet Laguna
I was talkin to a bumper rechroming vendor at a swap meet a couple of weeks ago, and he stated that GM's production #'s for the S3's were inflated to make it eligible for Nascar, he believes that only about 4500-5000 were actually produced in both 75 & 76.
Interesting but probably not verifiable

According to his youtube page, the car is sold. Won't hurt for me to double check, though.

Well, I haven't looked at it. But, that is Craig's list in a nutshell; a complete unknown. You don't know if you don't look...

Re: WANTED: 1976 Chevrolet Laguna
Hey, did that rattletrap Laguna in Indy have a bench or bucket seats?
Just thinking about that color and options, there was one for sale in Daleville about a year ago and it was also on Ebay.
Thanks -
Jerry

Re: WANTED: 1976 Chevrolet Laguna
Bench seat, torn just between where the driver and middle passenger would meet. It was definitely a no options car.
Honestly, it's wasn't a horrible car...just not worth the $6500, in my opinion.
I'd honestly say it was worth in the 1500-2000 range. The vinyl top was like new...on a good note.
ALSO, for anyone else looking at the car, the owner of the car is cool. It's the mechanic that is so "knowledgable" and probably the reason the owner thinks the car is worth so much. Really, though, the owner is a good guy. And has a couple of old Oldsmobiles, too...for any of you REO guys.

Re: WANTED: 1976 Chevrolet Laguna
If it was a bench seat then it was the one from Daleville.
It was $1500 and on the market for six months.
It was a bare bones 400 car with the half top pulled off.
Original paint, rust on quarters, and door bottoms.
Yeah, not a $6500 car.
Typically a $1500 car doesn't jump to $6500 with a new top.
Sorry Dude.
I didn't put two and two together till I saw your post this morning...
Thanks -
Jerry

Re: WANTED: 1976 Chevrolet Laguna
No problem Jerry.
I do appreciate the info on the car, even if it didn't pan out.
It's really not a bad car...just, like I said, not for $6500!
The power steering belt was off the car, when they were trying to tell me it drove like a dream!
