License plate light bracket

Post by Pdawgie on Wed May 25, 2011 10:44 am

Does anyone out there have a rear license plate light bracket for a 75? I'm not sure exactly what it looks like, as mine doesn't have one, I believe it screws on top of the tail piece and loops underneath to hold the light. I found the light part here locally, but they didn't have the bracket.

the lights should be in the side tail panel and the plate holder should lift up where where my 74 plate holder tilted down, see the hole by where the plate would go on the sides thats where the lights go one on each side and also you see the holes to mount plate holder on top

I will check to see if If have a spare for you not sure if I have not sold it yet ??

I got the rear harness off that 75 Laguna that was here being parted, and it had a single light that looked like it had a bracket that hung from the top, mine doesn't have the holes on the side. My car has the same marking on the top of the tail light section that looked like it had a bracket that hung down.

Can anyone out there with a 75 Laguna that has a license plate light, take a look and let me know exactly what it has, single or dual lights???

I still think the plate holder will be the same from 75-77 just would have to measure your hole width and I can measure the one I have here

The plate holder I have... and yes, it is a flip up one, just need the bracket (or what ever holds the light) for the plate light.

I'm heading out to one of the yards tomorrow. I'll see what I can learn. Still need a dash bezel/lens?

By the way, was that guy out your way parting out a '75 Laguna...or, just selling some left-over parts? He sent me a photo of the dash and door panels, but they were in rough shape.

Yes, I still need a bezel/lens. The guy by me was pretty much parting a Laguna out. He had already sold the shell, but had most of the other stuff that was taken off. Yes, the dash and door panels were in rough shape, he had a nice bezel, but he wouldn't part with it unless I bought the whole dash... which I didn't need. It had the idiot lights and big fuel gauge, did have what looked to be a factory am/fm radio still in it though.

The front nose was pretty decent and a lot of the brackets for it had been blasted, but most of the interior stuff wasn't very usable, unless of course you don't have anything. I bought the tilt, and 3 of the body emblems... he wouldn't part with the grille emblem as it belonged to the grille, and the rear wiring harness. He was trying to get me to buy a set of the upper window rubber, as he had 3 sets that were new, but mine is in good shape and didn't need it. The cosole was decent except the hinge was broken, and someone put in some little brass hinges.

License plate light bracket

Post by Mcarlo77 on Thu May 26, 2011 4:33 pm

Okay Willie (and, anyone else who is curious)...here is the license plate light bracket you are apparently missing. Pulled it off a '75 Malibu. It's pictured upside down, but you can see how the light mounts. The metal strip across the back is tack-welded to the tail light panel and that is what holds it in place. I had to break the strip at the welds on each end to remove. There...mystery solved.

PM me if you want it. Also, have a bezel/lens for you. By the way, that guy's Laguna bezel was broken down where the two mtg screw holes are located on either side of the strg column. Just wanted to mention that in case someone else was interested in it.

This is what I was talking about, if you look close it looks like there was something that was bolted the the tail plastic, that's why I thought there was something that bolted here and looped underneath to hold the light. This is with the trunk lid open and on top of the plastic tail piece.

The plastic tail piece was partially broken on this particular car and the light mtg bracket was only attached by the factory tack welds. There is a screw hole in the bracket. Wonder if that was an alternative way of mounting these. Who knows? The tack welds were definitely factory, though.
