WTB cowl screen, vent screen

Post by orange Juiced on Sun May 29, 2011 12:10 pm

Not sure on the correct name, but I'm looking for a cowl vent screen. Its the plastic screen above the hood seal/weather strip. Not sure if its all the same, but its for a 77 malibu with AC.

You have almost the right name for it. I had to buy one off of Ebay. I think I paid 30 bucks for it. I believe they are all the same for '74-'77 with or without air. The factory p/n for a Sprint (same as Elco) is 9614191 The parts manual calls it a shroud top vent screen.

Coincidently, I had another guy ask for one for his '74 Chevelle. I'm going out this week to find his. Will grab one for you if you'd like.

Here's how my top vent screen, if it looks the same with the top sheild and hump on driver side. Then yes if anyone has an extra one. I don't mind a few cracks since that would be easy to repair, just can't have broken pieces.

The only thing mines has is that the screen itself is damged. I thought of repairingit but can't find a screen pattern that is the same size or close to it.

Yeah I haven't been able to find one that I can use, I've checked some of those out and even some food strainers and no luck yet. I'll have on keep looking.

It took a while for me to get one off of ebay. There's a place called Chicago Muscle Cars that I bought a few parts from too. They are online and a Google search will turn up their site. They might have one.

WTB cowl screen, vent screen

Post by Mcarlo77 on Sat Jun 04, 2011 7:43 pm

Anyone else need one? Got a damage-free one left that I pulled from a '73 Chevelle. This is the same dimensionally as on the '74-'77's; except for one less mtg screw hole on the molded cup-like thing and it doesn't have a couple reinforcing "fins" at that "cup" area that were added on later models. Otherwise, identical. Need to ask $25; plus the ride.
