Trans cooler line?

Post by 77mali on Wed Jun 08, 2011 3:44 pm

This is one of a few missing items on my car...can anyone confirm what this connects to? I thinks it's the trans cooler line but want to confirm (there is a trans cooler behind the radiator)...no lines on that as well. If anyone has a pic of theirs please post would like to see what they should look like installed on both ends if possible. Very much appreciated. BTW...it's in a 77 Chevelle.

That's not a tranny line, they run on the other side of the engine. That is the line for the fuel tank venting. There should be a hose from there that goes to the black charcoal canister. A lot of people take them off and yours is probably gone.

Thank you. No canisters either. All that emissions stuff is gonzo.

If you're not going to use it, you may want to cover it up so no debris or water gets down it and into your tank.

It's got some seeds at the very top...LOL had some varmint that made his home in the engine bay at some point. Had his nest in the heater box. That was not pretty to clean...appreciate the help.

Best way to handle that is to put a cheap in-line fuel filter on that line, to keep the crap out, and let the tank vent. If you cap it off, the tank wont be vented, and would require a vented gas tank cap.......no air in= no fuel out, and I've heard of the tank caving in from the suction, without a vent. That sounds drastic, haven't seen one do that though.

Thanks. Where would the line connect to in absence of the canister? Or do you mean just to top the line w/ the filter?

left line goes to frame line
middle hose goes to pcv valve
right hose goes to carb

Why not just install a used cannister and make it right? They are easy enough to find out in the yards.

Yep...you've all convinced me :-)....not much pickin's up here in MA though, will have to replace the Vaccum canister too but I'm a ways from the engine bay right now. Finishing up the interior & the roof. Will post in "wanted" when the time comes. My thanks to everyone. Cheers! Beer

Well I found one but it's missing the cap on the "carb" line. Have been looking but no luck...Steve can you keep an eye out for one of those caps, please? My canister looks just like the one kindly posted by 73 454 Monte.
