What brand will work with the least amount of "massaging"???

thanks

all of the ones the guys mentioned so far are good, doug thorleys or sandersons are probably the best, but you'll pay through the nose. I have hedman shortys ceramic coated on my el camino cause its my daily, the 70' chevelle has the original motor right now but its getting the 454 with the stainless steel doug thorleys. what bacj is saying about the hedmans is right, the 5/6 cylinder plugs are a BITCH to get out, but i got them cause they were $100 and ceramic coated BRAND NEW. cant beat that.

I ran hedmans first the switched to Hooker Super Comps and the difference in quality is obvious. The Hookers flange is very nice and smooth, where as the Hedman flange was pretty rough, I also had a problem with the Hedmans eating gaskets

I had Headman headers on my car before. They fit ok, but not great. Two of the plugs required heat shields on the wires and they hung down too low. I switched to Hooker Super Comps and have none of the above issues. Yes, they are pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I think the picture I posted above should tell you where I stand. I've ran two different sets on mine. The first set fit great & plugs weren't that big of a hassle. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-2451HKR/

My latest set required some massaging on the passenger side due to interference problems with the frame. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-2116-1HKR/

EVERY set of headers that you put on will require taking out the "crash bars" underneath your car. Not sure of the exact term for these, but they are useless IMO & just add weight to the front end.

Here's a good read on sizing though:

I had to heat mine up and bend one tube on a press to clear the oil filter housing, but other than that just time consuming, not something you wanna do alot

When I was looking for headers I researched and found out that cheap Hedmans were no good, but the Hedman Elite series were great. I went to buy them and the shop did not have them in stock, but did have the Comps, so I bought them. They are nice, but I cant do anything without them dragging unless on perfectly level ground. JB

My dads 468 BBC has aluminum 2 inch headers and every spark plug boot is covered with a Thermo-Tec soft heat sheid.

I scored them for $200 on Ebay a few years ago. Some minor wear on the ceramic coating but still very much worth the price.

Jared, here's an older thread on Headers:
http://www.g3gm.com/t930-what-headers-and-why

If you search back in the G3tech section, a lot has been covered already. The "ECU" thread had a lot of newb info in it if memory serves me well. http://www.g3gm.com/t937-ecu Those Summit headers you asked about, I couldn't tell you how they are without knowing who manufactures them. IMHO though, if you are only buying them because they are cheap, then go look on RacingJunk, Craigslist, Ebay, or a swap meet for a used set. You can run across a used set of good headers for less than those. I just sold my spare set of Hookers for nearly nothing.
