Actually, most electric chokes are wired through an oil pressure switch, on the left-two terminals. Oil pressure sending unit is on the right, one terminal. Good luck, Ron

Maybe the last owner took it off...have a q-jet carb...I don't think it has electric choke but I don't know for sure will have to look into that. Thank you.

Yup. Thats what thr plug next to the sensor is for. Maybe if I'm lucky, she'll run better w/ that connected to the carb? LOL. Thanks Ron.

It's protects the choke coil and helps you to not run down the battery, key on engine off. If I can help, let me know, Ron.

If it's not too much of a pain in the A$$, can you post a pic of how it's conected on the carb side. I know it's prob. pretty simple but I am missing the whole unit. Thank you.

looks like you've found the hard parts. The choke coil connector connects to one side of the oil pressure switch. Connect the other side to a fused, ignition switch feed. Your choke will only recieve power when the car is running, this way it won't run down the battery, key on engine off. Ron

I'm going to email Edelbrock...hopefully they have a tech sheet on it. My carb's ID# reflects that is was made in 1986...I may just go with a new carb set up and sell this one since I'm getting some new RHS vortec heads & a new air intake. I don't think this one is worth rebuilding...still thinking it through though. Don't know if going w/ new if I'll even bother ordering it w/ the electric choke or not...isn't the only benefit that it warms up the carb faster when used in conjunction with the old "cross over" style intakes? Vortec's don't even use that technology...so I'm thinking why bother?

It's sometimes hard to picture what the end product will be, BUT if you can it WILL save you money. Match RPM ranges and parts as best you can. What model carb do you have? I have a dual quad intake I need 500 cfm's for, I have new, as far as I can tell 600's now. Try to plan it as best you can, planning saves money, at least till it's not fast enough. Ron

Mystery Solved

Post by 77mali on Thu Sep 22, 2011 7:50 pm

Ok...Mystery solved. Oil pressure sending unit it is with back up power supply that connects to electric fuel pump for some strange reason. (At least when installed on trucks). Might still work for choke too.
