Do you have the original paperwork on that one, by chance? I'd love to see if it mentions a hood ornament. I can't imagine it does. No MC had the MC emblem as a hood ornament like that until 1977. The closest was the '71, but that standup hood ornament had the name of the company in the circle.

I have the original owners manual, some warranty and other paper work, but no window sticker Do you know if the build sheet would list it as an option? I'm hoping to find one behind the door panels when I pull them, otherwise I have no idea. I know what you mean about only 77 having the ornament, and thats what I thought since it looks like the same one. I've seen other Montes with both, but nothing ever said it came factory that way either.
The only thing I know for sure that was done to the car prior to my dad buying it was the paint. Its possible someone added it on during that time.

No build sheet behind the rear seat, we've taken that out before. I've found the ones in my 76 behind the upper door panels. I think I even found one in my other 73 under the gas tank when we dropped it to do the sending unit!

i found my 73 build sheet on top of the gas tank. still readable.

I, too, have seen a number of '73 MCs with the additional standup hood ornament. I can't imagine that that particular emblem was available in '73 ... and GM waiting until '77 to put it on the car as a "main feature".... But, stranger things have happened, I suppose.

Even so ... I would think that, most likely, the emblem was added on later....

Earlier this year someone ran the stop sign just down the street from my parents house when my dad was driving home one day. He turned right just a bit and it softened the blow, but it still got it pretty good. At least it still shuts and the window regulator isnt damaged. Glass still rolls smooth as butter. My dad collected insurance money, and we got a door, along with a deck lid, and a bunch of NOS parts. He wanted to repaint it anyway, but now its up to me. I just need the time and money to do it. Car still breaks necks everywhere it goes though, dent and all. lol

He about got that phone shoved up his arse. He didnt like me taking pictures of his car for some reason either. Before anyone got there, my dad told me thought he was going to have to kick all three of their asses. lol

Had the dumb A$$ that rear ended me last year totaled my car I probably would have beat the crap out of him. But since all it did to my car was tweak the bumper and TOTAL his Toyota, I felt that justice had been served. As for the douchebag that hit your Monte, I would have gone bat $h!t on him. There is a reason I carry an aluminum baseball bat in the trunk of my car and that would have be one of those reasons to use it.
