73 receiver drier
Any of you ever replace this in your 73 ? Its right next to the Radiator on the driver side. Did the one you replaced it with have a site glass? It seems many that they sell in a regular parts store wont fit in the bracket. Im getting ready to do some AC work on my car (finally) and I want to get it all together before I start.Do you still need the site glass if its converted to 134,does it matter?

Re: 73 receiver drier
Ant, I dont think the sight glass would matter at all. No one has used one for years and I've never seen one on a 134 system. If you need a hand with the conversion, let me know. I have a set of 134 gauges and a vacuum pump that works off your air compressor. I've done about 5 conversions all with good results. I also like using, if they make it for your monte, a SMART VOV. Its basically a new orifice tube that has a light spring on the needle. Definitely made a nice difference in my tahoe and my wifes old bereatta. Let me know if you need a hand.

Joe,that is very nice of you thanks ! Is the orifice tube in the expansion valve? Where can I get a smart vov? Im trying to get everything together before I start.I was going to change the evaporator too but the thing is 73 only and about 350 bucks. Im going to do a bunch of stuff (heater core and install a new carpet and a few other things) then the AC.

Re: 73 receiver drier
The smart VOV is an orifice tube. I forgot that you have an expansion valve. Wonder is there is a change over for it. WOW $350 for the evaporator. Is yours leaking? Can a radiator shop maybe work some magic on it? Let me know if you need anything.

Re: 73 receiver drier
I was thinking the same about the evap. Im not buying it,there was no indication of anything being wrong with it,I just figured that since I had it all apart I would see if I could change it. I bought the updated POV valve already that cycles the compressor like a new car now just have to buy the compressor, exp valve and drier and get it evacuated. If something goes wrong with the evaporator I will deal with it, probably get it fixed that cant cost 350 bucks.

Re: 73 receiver drier
Joe,on further inspection it seems the 72 evaporator is very similar to the 73 why the guy wants so much for the 73 one, I dont know .The lines coming from the 72 style look exactly the same from the pics I can make out on ebay. Also the case on the 73 splits open so I dont have to wrestle the big damn thing out form under the hood but again im just going to replace what I said and see what happens for now.
By the way the cruise night starts on rt 52 in Carmel at Shoprite on the 21st of this month. I guess it will be our new spot for Sat nights.

Re: 73 receiver drier
That would be cool if you can make the 72 fit. I'm going to try to stop by on occasion at shop rite. I fish alot of tournaments on saturdays so I'm usually wiped out on sat. night. But I'd like to see what shows up.
