Hello everyone

Post by blaq's 73 on Fri Jul 20, 2012 10:25 pm

Hello.. So glad that I found this site. I have a 73 El Camino. It has been sitting for a very long time, and i couldn't find parts, or find anyone that knew where to get them. My brother blew up my quad 2 years ago, another classic, a Banshee and that has been my focus since. Now that project is finished and I pulled the Elco off craigslist last month. I almost got rid of her. It's time to start fresh. I dont know what my final outcome will be but I'm gonna start from the ground up. Lot's of work ahead of me, and I'm sure i will get some great info here.

Welcome. There are people who disassemble complete running 73/77 A body cars to sell parts. Some of these parts cars need so much rust repair that they are not worth the work to fix up even tho it could be done. Most parts you need are out there, its just a matter of finding them. If new parts for these cars were made from factory specs it would not be nessessary or fiesabile to disassemble whole running cars. Then more people would have a chance to own one. JB

Welcome to a great forum. As far as the El Camino is concerned, parts are hard to find, but they are out there. I'm in the final stages of a body-off restoration on a '75, same mostly, as yours.
Chevelle/Malibu parts fit the Elcos. from the doors forward, but not the door glass. I have Malibu front fenders on mine. One door is from a '77, and the other is from a '75. Hood is from a Malibu, and also the front bumper.

Here's a link to the pics of mine, on photobucket.
