OK then...Hawaii it is. Too bad everything there is so darn expensive, for example: $4.375/gallon for regular...ouch.

Re: Winter Sucks!
What would you do with your G3, would you take it with you? The best way I can describe the heat here is to turn on a hair dryer and point at your arm or leg. We have very little moisture in the air and hardly a breeze sometimes, but I can easily cool off better than I can warm up. When I get that cold it just seems so painful and gets done to the bone, for me thats miserable. My job has me going to northern New Mexico, where since I've been delivering there its been as low as 18 degrees and snowing. I know thats nothing compared to what you all deal with regularly, but I've been in Az. for over 35 yrs. I wouldn't live anywhere else!

Used to live in Mesa. Drove a truck daily to Flagstaff people thought I was nuts wearing shorts and a t-shirt in the snow. Was great to get back down to the valley.

I would never live there...(Hawaii), as much as we b!tch about winter up here- the other 3 seasons make up for the suffering. Spring & Fall are the best & summer is not usually "way too hot". My favorite time of year is "Planting time" in May & "Harvest time" from about mid Sept though early November. If you've never experienced southern New England during those months- I highly recommend you visit.

Re: Winter Sucks!
Hawaii isn't as expensive as it was, before Walmart and other large chain stores and restaurants came there. Of course there are high-end stores there also.
The big ticket things are the hotels on the beach. Best way is to stay in one a few blocks from the beach. And older hotels are also cheaper.
The gas prices vary just like they do here, but it's an ISLAND ! Oahu actually, and not far to go in any direction anyway !
I was in Massachusetts for a while in the military, in 1952, at Fort Devens, which may not be open anymore (?)

Re: Winter Sucks!
I'd like to visit someday...here's my "Vacations Bucket List"
US & Canada- Places I've not been but want to see-
Route 1 Coastal Hwy from Oregon to San Diego, Yosemite, the big island Hawaii, Grand Canyon, Bonneville flats (with Mali), Yellowstone, Great Smokey Mountains NP & the southern Appalachians, Coastal Alaska & Siberia, Nova Scotia, P.E.I & New Brunswick.
Around the "Rock"
Rio & Sao Paulo Brasil, Buenos Aires & the Pampas in Argentina
The UK & Ireland (Especially Scotland- so I can wear a Kilt!), Iceland, Scandinavia & Denmark (I love blondes & blue eyes-married one!), a European Mediterranean Tour, Oktoberfest in Bavaria, Auzzie & New Zealand, Namibia & South Africa and finally-
I have no interest in the middle east or Asia except maybe the Himalayas & Tibet.
Whew! Now all I need is the time & money.

Re: Winter Sucks!
BBQed GROUNDHOG (Texas Style! )
INGREDIENTS:
1 good sized "whistle pig" (groundhog)
1 bottle BBQ Sauce (any kind you like)
3-4 large onions (optional)
2-3 green bell peppers (optional)
PREPARATION:
clean groundhog thoroughly (on male hog: be sure to remove glands in "armpits")
peel and quarter onions
clean and cut peppers into fairly large chunks
* Place groundhog on heavy-duty aluminum foil
* stuff chest cavity and belly with onions and peppers
* arrange remaining onions and peppers around groundhog
* fold up beginning edge and sides of aluminum foil
* pour most of BBQ Sauce over groundhog (save a little sauce in bottom of bottle)
* quickly but carefully roll up aluminum foil, making sure that sauce doesn't run out on the sides
* keep rolling tightly, 4 or 5 times, into foil, folding in sides of foil like a package after each turn
* cut foil and fold edges over
* repeat procedure another 3 or 4 times into lengthwise direction
COOKING DIRECTIONS:
Best if prepared on a grate over an open fire, but can also be baked in the oven at 375°F
* cook (bake) 1½ hours, then turn package over
* cook (bake) another 1½ hours
* remove package and slice through all layers of aluminum foil in a triangular shape
* peel layers back carefully (watch out for hot steam)
* pour a little water into the bottle of BBQ Sauce to thin out remaining sauce
* shake well and pour mixture into "smokehole" in aluminum foil package
* close hole and cover top of package with an extra piece of foil
* return package to fireplace or oven
MAKE SURE THE SIDE WITH THE HOLE IS FACING UP !!!
* bake for another 30 to 40 minutes
* remove package from fire or oven (keep the side with the hole facing UP )
* slice aluminum foil open carefully (hot steam!)
Serve hot with --- well, just about anything
TIP: The shortback is the BEST part !
MMMMM, MMMMM, Good!

I missed this Bill...Ft. Devens has been modified for both military & civilian use, including a corrections facility. There are many companies there manufacturing goods as well as a smaller portion of the base still dedicated to mostly military storage & National Guard. The old base (as you know) was within the boarders of 3 or 4 small towns. It's now it's own municipality- "Devens, MA".
PS- Thanks for your service.

Re: Winter Sucks!
I was in Devens for only a short time, before shipping out to Europe. I was in the Army Security Agency, which was an NSA feed, so to speak....
Looks like another winter storm is headed your way, according to The Weather Channel this morning. Looks like it will miss lower Michigan, so far...

Re: Winter Sucks!
Is it over yet??? I read you're still in the white up there
I got to burnin' brush today & yard clean up. Getting 'whipped' + =
(It's a leteral move grabbing the leaf blower vs. snow thrower.)
Still pretty cold @ night but we hit 75 just the other day. I can't be too far hang in there!!!

Re: Winter Sucks!
We had that one warm day too, then down into the mid 40s again. Lots of rain here for a couple of days, and we had water all over the place. Both roads that go to the private airstrip where my Elco project is located, have been closed due to flood water over the low areas of the roads. Water has went down today in low areas of my yard & in the fields next to my house. No big deal though. I've been working on my old Caddy beater, at the local airport shop, trying to get the brakes to work better, without much success.....

Things were finally shaping up around here and last week I flew into your neck of the woods smack into that storm on Thursday night. It was like being back in February!

Re: Winter Sucks!
After finally getting maybe five days in a row of 70+ temps, they are saying we could see upwards of 3-5" of slushy snow overnight. Three inches for the month of May is the all-time record. Hell, at this point, may as well go for the gold!
