would a 95 buick roadmaster 10 bolt with drum brakes be a bolt in for my 74 chevelle?? also the roadmaster has the Lt1 5.7 liter and four speed automatic intact.

The roadmaster ten bolt is obviously 8.5 it has the telltale ears on the bottom of the casting. but I didnt pull the cover to look for gear count or posi, the control arms are c shaped and look just as cheasy as my 74 Chevelle ones. And the roadmaster has no sway bar. It has giant drum brakes though. do you think it has 30 spline axles?? it seems obvious that the housing tapers down at the backing plates, a clear indicator of c-clip style axles.

Would it be worth the swap?

Just to get 30 spline axles and possibly lower gears maybe a posi?

Would I need the entire control arm set top and bottom to make the swap work because of bolt and bushing size differences??

Then how would I get my sway bar on there?
The e brake setup is strange too, with a crossover cable from the passenger side to the drivers side or something. Looks like its that way because the brake backing plate has the ebrake nub pointed towards the rear of the car not forward on the passenger side, like other GM's ive looked at. Odd.

The later Chevelles/Malibus, and El Caminos, '76 & '77, have 11 inch brakes It might be easy enough to find parts to do bigger brakes that way, if that's what you are after.

good point!
how about those 30 spline axles? worth it?
I was interested in this Impala SS swap, is that swap only warranted when the disc brakes, posi and deeper gears are included? my housing is the odd bolt in axle housing with the hour glass rear cover and I would prefer the regular c clip version especially if it had bigger axles.

My dad had a 96 roadmaster w/lt1 that car had a posi. It was all loaded so if the one you are looking at is equipped pretty good, chances are it does.

my old 91 caprice had a posi (well technically a limited slip)carried a g80 codein the glove box as far as the swap get all control arms for rear and get the computer for motor/transand the harnessand go to town, the front spindles may even swap so you would have 5x5 front and rear
