Header ID ???? Empty Header ID ????

Can anyone ID this header? I've searched the net and cant find anything with a flange like these. Not even chinese ones. The flange is what has me stumped.

Finally found something. They look like flow techs. What do you guys think of them? They're for sale for 200 obo. I think I can get them for around 150. Might fit the bill till I locate some stainless ones.

Opinions??

They look good. Are the ones in the pic you posted above yours?

Did you notice the yellow #3 on the product description page? Kind of a confusing statement...Make sure you can use them & not run into any problems w/ state inspection.

77, no there not mine, yet. Going to take a look at them tomorrow. That crazy flange that bolts to the head has me up in the air. The flange is 5/16" thick like most other manufacturers. I figure for maybe 150 I'd take them if they check out. I put my hookers in the car to match up to the flowtechs and I have a straight edge to check the flange for flatness. I like that they're 1 5/8" and not the 1 3/4" tube. Keeps a little more bottom end even though I have a stick.

Limey, thanks for posting the pic. If these coated ones had the flange like yours I'd definitely be grabbing them. Dont know why the flange bothers me but I'll take a look at them in person.

I like the fact that the collector area is the longer type. I've been seeing alot of styles of headers for our cars with a short type of collector. Especially on ebay. Not a fan of the short collector.

I'll post up if I buy them tomorrow.

Not certain but I'd make sure those style of flanges wont hit the valve covers. They look like it might interfere. Also, I'd try to stay away from the 5/16" flange, the 3/8" is much thicker and less prone to gasket failure. I'm forever replacing my sons header gaskets, because his flange is 5/16. I bought some headers with 3/8 flange for my car and don't have any problems with gasket failure. Just my .02.

I agree- & also it's kind of tough (for me) to get the bolts nice & tight & I have to end up using a wrench for a couple of bolts. Because of that I tend to over torque them a bit just to be safe. I'd be concerned with warping if mine were not 3/8".

I've tried all kinds of tricks. Lockwashers designed for header bolts, and various brands of gaskets. Soaking gaskets in water, hi-temp silicone. I thing I've heard but haven't tried was to cut the flange so that the 2 outside pipes were isolated. They have their own bolt holes and would be seperated as to not be "influenced" by the rest of the header. Also, make certain the rest of the exhaust is properly secured and the weight of the pipes doesn't get supported by the headers. The headers wont handle the weight of the pipes and mufflers. This has helped my situation alot but didnt solve the problem of bolts lossening up. I just remeber to tighten header bolts every time I'm under the hood. So far they've lasted the longest that way. But, I have to do this at least 2x's a month.

Bruisr I used Stage 8 locking header bolts NEVER have had a loose one to the 9 years I have used them little pricey but sure beats tightening them up al the darn time

I've seen those and the split lock fasteners. I don't think they will fit all headers. I've noticed on some the head of the bolt is so close to the pipe, nothing will fit between the two. Even those shown above. Hence the warning, spend the good money on brand name headers. You will be happier in the long run. Personally, cyclone,blackjack, flowtech are the worst. Hooker or nothing for me. My hookers are over 15 years old and still going strong. HAHA!! He said Hookers!

My big block headers are a different story I have so much room around the pipe for the bolts, I use Stainless Allen heads, It looks so much cleaner.

The last pic of the headers above, You can get the stage 8 fasteners on the #2 and # 6 pipe? It looks to me like the bolt would be too close to the pipe for the splined plate of the fastener kit.

FWIW I've found gasket thickness makes a huge difference. My gaskets are 1/4" thick, and I only have to check the bolts at the beginning of the season -- only a couple on the ends will have loosened, and not by much. When I had thinner gaskets I had to check once a month or so.

I mean no offense to any one I just give my opinion based on my results, and we all know results will vary on numerous conditions. I've just had bad luck with the headers I've stated above. No harm or offense meant to anyone.

thanks for the info on the 3/8th flange .... I have had bad luck with headers over the years, so I thought, I would ask the experts .... I need to save a little more money, and get the quality stuff.

Hooker is a good brand.

Mine are from 1993 & had 1 minor repair recently that was only due to them being "clearanced" a bit much once in their lives & not because of internal rot. Do they have a few pits? (yeah a little) but they have withstood the test of time IMHO.

I bought those headers just a little while ago. They do look just like the ones pictured above except that my flange is 5/16" and the tubes are 1 5/8". The pictured ones are 1/4 flange and 1 1/2" tube. I was trying to stay with the normal 1 5/8 or 1 3/4 tube to keep some low end torque. The 2 " would be too big for me on the street.
