My first american car.

Post by thecriw on Tue May 14, 2013 8:02 pm

Just saying hello as I am new to the world of american cars, however I have always loved the end of the 70's muscle cars era. Finally one day I decided i wanted to own one but being from Canada they are rare to find in great condition. After many many months of looking I found an all original 1976 Chevrolet Chevelle Mailbu Classic Landau that was built and made in Canada. I am the 3rd owner with all paperwork to prove. It spent most of it's life in a garage on the lower mainland of BC ( no salt other than in the air). To my knowledge the rear seat has never been sat in as both previous owners did not have kids. It has 67k miles original documented miles and original shinny paint. The od stone chip etc and a cracked windscreen but it actually needed nothing for the safety. I have since replaced all brakes, wheel bearings, fluids, suspension, tires and wheels. I am keeping all original parts and pieces as I make it my own. I drive it daily and love it. Next thing is a tune up and fix some of the oil seeps from 38 yr old gaskets. Oh yah... even came with optional 8 track player and 20 or so tapes plus not to mention enough oil and filters for a full service including a new set of GM wiper blades in original box. Problem is all the products just mentioned are from 1976! Here's a picture I took the other day.......

...that didn't work? How do I up load a photo? Question

Congrats on the great buy you made and welcome to this site. JB BTW, wiper blades will dryrot and 1970s oil is not as good as what we have now.

JB- where ya been, 1970's oil is better than oil today! Try to break in a new cam with today's modern oil! Oil from that era has the zinc and moly additives needed for flat tappet cams. True, synthetics are better, but you can't use it the first time you fire up a new engine. You should check those oil bottles or cans, I know people that will pay good money for them.
Congrats, on the 76, its a nice car, I also own a car from across the border, My 74 chevelle was made in Canada. Ha! I'm driving an import! LOL!

Hi there.

Welcome to G3GM, it's nice to see some other Canadians on here.
My wife has a malibu classic the same colour as yours, hers has a full vinyl top and rally wheels. Yours looks like it is in really good shape, nice find.

Thanks Graham.

There is a big GM plant in Oshawa Ontario that has built pick up trucks and either mid size or full size cars for as long as I car remember. It is about 3 hours from where I live.

Thanks Graham.

Our cars,g3's, don't really appeal to the masses like a '67 chevelle, '69 camaro, 70 mustang, etc.  Therefore it really limits resale value. Sad  one real negative aspect of putting a lot of money into the, but we all on this forum love them.

it's a nice car, at a fair price ...

all I can figure, as the reason it's not selling is, it's a long drive to go get it.

also, is there any special paperwork that must be done, buying a car from Canada, and getting a US title?

you've got a nice car !

Thanks alleyball4, It's no big deal to bring into the US at all, except CA and CO they have more strict regulations. I have bought many US cars over the years and imported them back into Canada. Most I even bought several sight unseen. You learn to trust the seller by what they say or lack of it and I have found the less said (on condition) the better the car. I have also shipped many cars cross country usually around a G note. Hopefully someone wants her cause I'm surprised it isn't selling here in Canada? There are a couple other for sale up here right now and both are over the $8k mark. One is from Arizona with low miles original and he is asking $12k. Mine is for sale locally for $7.5k
