Re: The 71 4 door

I'll see if it can. We had a hell of a time trying to move it where it's at. Might have to pull it with a truck or something with some guts. You know a Ford can't cut the mustard, lol. It is in an easier to move spot, but trying to get anything in & out of there pretty much sucks. I helped haul my old Bronco from the spot where we put the 73 & it was pretty much drive up, back in, & load. Maybe if I can at least get it moved closer it will help. Good to hear the winch is OK though. For this one you're gonna need it.

I had the cars for maybe six months I think. I just traded for the eclipse & put them on the backburner when I found a 455 for the Cutlass. Never got around to removing anything, just getting the motor fired up. The guy I got them from said he was taking the front end off to swap on the 2 door. Course he also said he was swapping the frames, lol, rrriiight. What's up with the fender?

Ohh, just making sure it wasn't screwed or anything. The leaves are probably my fault, lol. BTW just checked Myspace, looks like I got it around July or August last year. Wow, I didn't think I had them that long. Guess they went unnoticed out there. Hopefully I'll be buying the place in a few months so all of my projects will be in one place instead of spread out.

You didn't see it when we moved out there almost 11 years ago. That spot you used to turn around, where most of the cars up there are parked, & in front of the house used to be nothing but dense woods. It took about 5 years to get it cleared to the point it's at now. It will take me a couple more to clear a good turn around spot for anyone unfortunate enought to pull a trailer in there, lol. I plan on taking the 4 wheeler trail where the 4 door was parked & opening that area up kind of like a circle drive.

Got the tranny out today and it is the original trans. Its in great shape for 171K on it. The flex plate was shattered and it fubared the pump up pretty bad so all it needs is a new pump but I took it apart anyways. I forgot how much harder it is to build th350s than th400s.
So im doing the valve body mods, red clutches, hardened race, and the 5 clutch upgrade. So it should be pretty strong. well find out when the 1000hp rat motor gets droped in. The question wont be if it will break, but when it will break.

haha I just took the grinder to the quarter you should see how much work thats gonna be. OH $H!T what did I get into I was thinking when I was doing it. Hell I still dont know what to do about it. Also found out that it has 2.56 non posi rear, theres a big rust hole in the frame and the rockers are pretty shot.

Well, you have a few options:

1. Find a 4 door with solid quarters, cut them out, & weld up. (not likely to find any though)
2. Cut out the rust, make your own quarters out of sheet metal & weld up. (best solution, but tougher than it sounds)
3. Cut out the rust, get some fiberglass sheets & mold it to the remaining metal. (easiest to accomplish, waaay better than Bondo, but less durable than going with new sheet metal)

Ouch... rotted frame? Hopefully the 2 door is solid in that spot, then it's just cut & paste, lol.

Im wondering if 2 door quarters will work. They look pretty close. Im thinking about asking a local goodmark dealer thats a friend to let me barrow a quarter to check.

I've wondered that as well. The only thing I'd be worried about is the "Power Bulge" below the main crease & how it would line up. Wait... your buddy is a Goodmark dealer? That's awesome!

Let me know if it fits for future reference. the 73 makes A-body #7, so I'm sure I'll end up with another 70-72 later on down the road.

I figured that was the original paint job, but from the looks of that pic I'd say there's at least another layer under there. That paint looks awfully thick to be original.
