Re: BJ Auction walk around
I really enjoy the title of this thread.
I went there a few years ago and it was a pretty awesome sight. Its a never ending sight of cars lined up to go in and being able to walk around all of the cars is pretty cool too. It was the year Jesse James' Monster Garage vehicles were there and seeing those first hand was neat.

Yep. You're only walking around if you didn't win the auction.

Re: BJ Auction walk around
Big, Big event this year!! They have way more area under tent than ever! I did see a 76 Monte and a 74 ELCamino454 in the small tents on the polo field, but they were the only G3's I saw except my 75 Laguna, which we drove there! I saw the Snake and Mongoose cars and their tow rigs, and Don Prudhomme was signing posters. I also saw Floyd Garrett ( Floyd Garret's Musclecar Museum) sitting down with three of his cars relaxing. Also saw Mike Joy of Fox News doing interviews. All in all, a great day for a BJ!!

Re: BJ Auction walk around
As I understand it, there's no commission charged on charity auctions. However, both Buyer and Seller pay a 10% commission on other auctions. Some high-end cars (and, even the carousel) had a Reserve and we were wondering if there was a listing fee to the Seller if a car didn't reach their Reserve?
Awesome day at the auction on Friday! Walked past the guys from Fast and Loud (Gas Monkey boys; including Richard) and that little twerp Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle show). Linda Vaughn was onstage selling her Hurst Olds.
Didn't spot the '76 Monte...but, did see the '74 El Camino 454 and snapped a photo. Car had P245/45/18's on the front and P255/55/18's on the back.

Re: BJ Auction walk around
Did you see Rick Hendrick? Bastard snagged a 1st production Z/28 for $650 LARGE!
That $$$ went to a high school in Detroit. There were plenty of cars that hit over 200k yesterday...those guys make a killing on commissions, that's why they prob do soo many charities, to offset the tax burden.
Man I wish I was there too! Snowing here this morning (again)....

Re: BJ Auction walk around
That El Camino had a particularly crappy paint job. The area where the drivers door mirror USED to be, showed right through the new paint. they stuck the chrome one on later I guess. Maaco paint special...he, he.

Re: BJ Auction walk around
Maybe I've just been going to this auction for too many years...but, seems this one didn't have many of those extrordinary specialty cars that gave it that "wow" factor that previous auctions have had. In fact, I've felt their entire lineup has been a little weak over the past few years. Don't get me wrong...it's still a helluva good time!
Another example of a mediocre grade car I spotted was an original '73 Buick Riviera Boattail spotted in the indoor tent. The dash was badly cracked, door window w/stripping was old and dry-rotted and the driver side door window glass was askew when rolled up. Would never have seen something like this in years past.
Seemed the Auctioneers were working the crowd pretty hard to get the dollars up on all but the high-end cars.
