Yes that is just held in by the cotter pin. I would start looking for shifter bushing kits. Is this car automatic or a stick, and column or console? That ear was usually the column release for the key when the car was put into park or with a stick, sometimes reverse.

It is a automatic with a hurst dual gate on the floor (although it was originally a column shift) Thanks for the response, now if only i don't get the deer in the headlights look from the parts store guys.

Try the HELP stuff first. If not, just hit a TRUE hardware store. Not like home depot. A store that has drawers of bolts, nuts, all that stuff.

Measure the opening, and try McMaster-Carr if you can't find one anywhere local.

That connection is supposed to have a rubber grommet in the arm, with the little plastic bushing inside of the grommet. I believe I bought those from OPGI, or maybe one of the other suppliers, like Dixie Monte Carlo, or....?
You need just the grommet, according to that picture. A thin washer next to the cotter pin is a good idea too...

Thanks for the responses, it has needed this for a while & I will definitely put a washer behind it.  I just had no idea what it was called (ie  what to ask for)

Found these searching for the GM part numbers in the links.
YearOne sells the bushing:

GM Parts sells "sleeve kit" but doesn't say whats all included:

Well I bought the eBay post (that 1973 montec posted..thanks again for that)  The kit was  nice ac delco nos in the original plastic bag (although for thirty dollars I feel a little ripped off)  While I had it apart I sandblasted the rod and painted it machinery grey.  It definitely looks better (not falling apart anymore)  Give Me Beer

I installed my linkage and noticed I was missing the washer/bushing (GM 1377083) that goes on the frame by the spring.

This is the cheapest one I found at $1.18 shipped. I haven't installed it yet but looks like it will fit.

I'll have to look closer at mine, I knew I needed the obvious one above, but didn't really look closely at the bottom.  For $1.18 I may just replace it for the h3ll of it.

It's a nylon sort of washer, which is flat on one side, and domed on the side that goes into the bracket on the frame. It should also have a flat washer on the flat side, so the spring doesn't dig into the nylon plastic.
If the linkage gets sloppy, the hole in the nylon washer may be worn oversize. I just replaced one on my partners pickup truck because it was worn oversize. Now he knows what gear he is in !
