Received the rear axle from brownbomber77 today! Will post pics later.

Pics of the axle taken this evening...
I know... not that exciting. But when it's in your own backyard waiting for installation it's pretty cool.

I would be excited. I am happy any time I get to spend a few minutes working on mine no matter what it is.

Re: 73 El Camino
I'm excited and I just finished doing this. Couldn't find one with disk breaks for a decent price but an Auburn posi and 3.23s, why wouldn't I. . . .

Re: 73 El Camino
Well, we've gathered almost everthing to get started this Friday. We've got the rear axle, rear control arms, C5 front brake kit, front end rebuild kit, And, if we don't have it, it well be here by Thursday at the latest. Only things we're waiting on are the front and rear sway bars, rear brake hoses at the calipers, line-lock, proportioning valve, and some fuel line. I'm sure we're missing something, but hopefully by Sunday afternoon the El Camino is back on all-fours and ready to go.
We'll try our best to take pictures as we go. Sometimes it's hard to stop for a minute and snap a few, as you all know.

Oh yeah...
If anyone can think of something we might be missing based on the parts we're working with, don't hesitate to chime in. Need all the help and advice we can get. Thanks.

Re: 73 El Camino
Do you have extra tubing and a tubing bender to plumb out the line lock? Or maybe someone who can make you the 2 lines out of brakes hose? Also, tubing cutter with reamer for cutting and cleaning up the tubes.

Yep. Got several cutters/reamers and benders. Waiting to get the tubing to confirm thread sizes and we have all the major auto parts chains within a mile or two, so no problem there. Good suggestions. Thank you.

Re: 73 El Camino
Get the copper easy bend line..you wont regret it. btw the flair nuts should be 3/16ths standard.

Re: 73 El Camino
Question. Are you going to install the line lock before or after the proportioning valve? Before the valve will keep your brake lights on, after the valve and no brake lights.
I see that you have a new prop valve so you wont be doing away with that like some guys do.

Re: 73 El Camino
Line lock before the factory proportioning valve.
The proportioning valve we're getting is for the rear. A simple one-in one-out valve. We'll tap into the line that runs to the rear somewhere under the driver seat. Since we're upgradeing from factory disc/drum setup to 13" C5 front and Impala rear disc, we'll need to adjust wheel lockup as close to front/rear equalization as possible.

Re: 73 El Camino
The plan was to start on this thing today, but... Â My boss' mother passed away so he is headed to TN this morning. Â Needless to say I'll be at work all day and besides, the weather is looking like rain nearly all weekend. Â We don't have a garage, so we are at the mercy of Mother Nature. Â
Starting to sound like a broken record: Â Stay tuned...
