Since there is no Brake section, I will post this question here.

Does anyone know the correct lenth rod between the brake booster and the master cylinder on a 73 El Camino? The car was originally equiped with front disc - rear drum. During our engine conversion, we misplaced the old one. We went to the local JY and could only find an 80's G-body rod. It is too short we believe, and not building pressure for the rear brakes.
The only two solutions we know of at this point is to a) find the correct rod, or b) buy a reman brake booster and master cylinder combo that will have the rod with it.

How about just going with.an adjustable rod. Just leave.a pinch of play before the.pushrod touches the master cylinder piston.

I ran into a situation along these lines when I upgraded to the MC from a 93 Caprice -- the Caprice booster mounts directly to the firewall instead of the standoff bracket our cars have, so the rod comes up short.  I made an adjustable one by using a couple inches from the rod off of both the old and new boosters, threading them, and joining them with a coupler:

So I'm thinking you should be able to get two rods from the yard, a threaded coupler, and break out your tap & die set.  3/8-16 ought to do it IIRC.
