Big brake spindles

Post by brownbomber77 on Tue Mar 24, 2015 7:34 am

I've got  set of spindles from a B-body that get you 12" brakes using an 89-92 1LE rotor for 4.75x5 bolt pattern.  These are a bolt in for an additional 1" in front rotor area.  They've been sand blasted and have several coats of Rustoleum semigloss black.  Comes with spindles, dust shields, crown nut, crown washer, and the small rubber gasket that goes behind the dust shields.  $150 plus the ride.  I can get them to south GA or Joliet, IL for free.

I can get them anywhere between south Florida and Illinois for free. Coverage is pretty wide along I-65 and I-75. Only caveat is, gotta wait for delivery....until late May....

I'd double-check that 4.75" -- I upgraded to '93 B-body rotors when I installed my ABS, and the front wheels are now 5x5.

Right. I'll copy the link from the trans am forum when I get home. iPhone isn't allowing me to paste. They do this swap for the 2nd gen trans ams. 88-92 1Le front rotors and b body spindles.

Thats why you use the 3rd gen fbody rotors (like he states in his post) instead of the b-body rotors, then you have the correct 4.75" instead of 5" BP. My brother runs the exact same setup on his '70

Oops, totally misread it. Saw B-body spindles and missed that rotors were from an F-body rotors. Do the rotors have the ABS ring in them?

I was reading this thread about the b-body spindles and 1LE rotors and I would like to do this to my car. My question is do you think they make these spindles in 2" drops? I would like to use 2" drop spindles in the front, but would also like to run these larger rotors.....

Would 94-96 Impala dropped spindles be what I am looking for? Then use the 1LE rotors on those?

Or am I better running stock b body spindles with 2" drop springs? This would be more cost effective.

Well if you need new springs anyway then yes. 2 inch springs would be more cost effective.

There is a drop spindle available for the 91-96 B-body, but it's pretty expensive. FWIW, I'm running the stock B-body spindle with 2" drop DSE springs if that helps give you an idea of what it would look like. Glad I didn't go any lower. Check out the photos in my gallery for larger images.

I am running DSE 2 " drop springs in the rear. I was planning on running what you have in the front. I just wondered if the dropped spindles were better but they are pricey.
I'll just get the drop springs and stock b body spindles.
Thanks for the advice guys.....

I would like some additional information on this conversion. What calipers and pads do you use, I read the info on the link and they had issues using a twin piston caliper with 15" wheels. I have the backing plate and 11" drum assembly off of a 1977 Monte Carlo I am planning on upgrading the rear brakes on my 1975 Laguna with, seems the 12" front rotors would be a good fit with the larger rear brakes. Any conversion I make like this I would also like to be able to purchase parts for it over the counter at any auto parts store.

I have sent you a PM concerning the spindles.
