Coil Over Conversions

Post by oldstofty on Fri May 01, 2015 3:16 pm

I have searched and searched and found nothing promising. Does any one know if they make a Coil over conversion kit for our cars? I am currently wanting to just do the rear but will be doing the front soon too.

I know a guy that is having the rear done on his olds. I think it was Speed Tech that was doing them. He did a front and rear. Basically you just have to get the brackets. I will see if I can get in touch with him today to find out if he is finished. I talked to them before and they said they would be offering the kit when finished.

Maybe I'm missing something here...I'm looking at the QA-1 Coil-over conversion shock for 73-77 chevelles offered on page 276 of the 2015 OPGI catalogue.Your choice of single or double adjustable/619.99 and 449.99 per set.

Those dirty dogs..here's a partial description,"Specially designed conical springs come with each set allowing for the use of the factory upper spring pocket, while the lower portion rides on plates with the shock body".

The beginning of the ad says these are "front coilover",nothing mentioned concerning the rears.Dang! It really blows being ignored by the top dogs in the performance industry.

Are you trying for better handling or is straight line performance your goal?

If it was me I would skip the coil over idea for the front. If the spring rate in the car is right the only thing you adjust is the shock. You can use a single adjustable shock in the front like the strange s5263. It adjusts extension by the knob and compression is a ratio. Generally in a small tire car unless it's wheel standing high, extension is all that is needed. For the rear, you can go with a coil over, but I think I would like to have them mounted vertically to truly see the benefit. If you have a good spring rate you can use a bolt in double adjustable shock like the strange s5064. A small tire car needs a double adjustable shock to extend and then hold it there. My car has been 1.25 in 60' with a single adjustable front shock and moroso trick spring. The rear uses double adjustable shocks.
