Something smell funny?

Post by Roadcaptain S3 on Wed Sep 09, 2015 6:19 pm

Or just me?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-Chevelle-Laguna-S-3-/321859095815?hash=item4af04c0d07&vxp=mtr

Swivels w/column shift. 305 ci (?) Non factory color, odd upholstery, no VIN # listed and says 46k miles. Mentions it's "extremely rare", but it obviously ain't factory.

Interesting. I have seen swivel bucket cars with column shift, no console. And 4 speed cars with no console as well.

This guy clearly is confused as to what he's selling. It IS a '75, yet he rattles off the production number for '76's. Did you catch his listing error showing it's AWD? LOL!

Seriously though...these cars could be ordered with swivels and no floor console. They are rare. 305's weren't introduced until 1976. Has the correct upper door panels for a '75 and seat fabric is factory (my parted '76 Laguna had the same fabric). The Gunmetal color was not a std. paint scheme for Lagunas...however, a Med. Gray Poly was available on Chevys in '75. Suppose it's possible somebody could have special ordered it in that color. Only the VIN will confirm if this is a true Laguna, though.

And he's pretty light on feedback as well.

I've never seen that column/swivel combo before, and I don't think I ever saw that type of material on the seats either. Thanks for the info.

The funny part is that it wouldn't have mattered a few years ago, but the "collector" type guys are starting to pay up for all original SSs and Lagunas. Problem is most of them don't know what an all orig should look like. (I don't either, apparently Very Happy )
I figure it probably is a 'guna, but it's had some mods over the years. The old AAA sticker on the bumper and white walls kinda scream old guy flip or estate sale car.

Interesting that it's at 2600 with 6 days left and already met reserve.

After looking at the pics a little closer, it is clear the car has been repainted. The cracking in the paint on the nose and, what looks like gray primer in the inner door edges and jambs. Maybe the engine was replaced as well. Or, the Seller is guessing it's a 305. Funny, he doesn't mention the swivels in his description. Those are a trademark feature of this era of G3's and 99 out of 100 Sellers would point that out. First thing I'd ask if I were interested in bidding is for a VIN. Something regarding the legitimacy of this car/Seller is nagging at me in the back of my mind...

Me too. "Longtime member" with a feedback # of 8?

It's gonna go cheap though, so it's pretty clear he doesn't know much about it.

I think you've pegged him correctly as a flipper who doesn't know much about these cars.

It looks pretty clean...but, I guess it would with a repaint. Notice the door crease on the passenger side...under the door handle. Surprised he has the Reserve off already if he's asking $10K on Craigslist. Not going to get that much on e-Bay with this car.

I'm wondering if he actually meant $1000 on CL and set the reserve at that on ebay.
Or he has a decision making disorder.

He will end the auction before it goes cheap.  And then relist it again and again.  It's the same old Ebay run around.

You can't go by that anymore.  I also am a long time member -- back 7-10 years ago when I was putting the TPI (and the rest of the car) together I purchased hundreds of parts off ebay, and had respectable feedback numbers.  I just recently purchased something off ebay again after a long time away from it and discovered they had wiped out all my feedback.  I still have the blue star (or whatever color denotes the number of purchases > 100), but all my feedback is gone.  I can only figure they keep them for only so long and then purge.

Thanks ebay!

The front and rear rub strips are black with the white pinstripe. That means the car would have had black side stripes on it if they were not deleted on the order sheet. It may have been a white body / black stripe car with red interior. like to see the data plate and VIN, but I think it's a Laguna, he just doesn't have the facts straight.

I've seen Chevy consoles (on eBay) that had a block off for the shifter, ie buckets. Console, and a column shift.

...or didn't think people would cross reference CL & eBay? Either way ... weird.

Cool car, tho. Wouldn't mind seeing it in person, at least.

I'm willing to bet it's had lots of work done, even the emblem on the steering wheel is wrong, thought it was more like a shield with three up/down panels and one horizontal across the top. It could be a clone?

I am the owner of a 73 Monte with Swivel buckets and a column shift. Seemed odd to me when I got the car, but as stated...it could be ordered that way.

Car is back up for a fourth time...this time With a Reserve.  Second round the bidding went to $8700.  Third round came up short at $8400.  Noticed when searching in the Advanced link on e-Bay that he originally listed it the first of the month with a Buy it Now of $13K.  Doesn't appear he had a Reserve on the second & third listings...so, only way he could avoid a Negative feedback from the high bidders was to cancel the auction at the last minute.  What a douche bag!
