Based on Limey's measurements, the FedEx price would be almost 1/3 the price of that based on my rough measurements. Unbelievable what a few inches can make on the cost! Makes it damn hard to quote a shipping cost until final packaging as even an inch either way can make a sizable difference in cost.

1973 ss El Camino being parted

Post by Battery man on Mon Nov 23, 2015 9:05 am

Thanks so much for measuring the 1973 plastic fender. Now I need to know the weight of the plastic fender and a zip code of where it would be shiped from. With this information I can tell what my cost form UPS will be.

This is the first forum I have ever belonged to. I have restored many Corvettes. That is how I put my Daughters thru school.
My love for wagons is way I am now into metal cars. This is my third wagon. A 1973 SS 454..

The people in this form have be so nice and helpful. Thanks G3GM.

Dont know if you have seen the new plastic inner fenders on eBay right now. The say 73-77. I'm sure they are reproductions. They are from The Parts Place.

Last time I was out there, the entire underdash wiring harness was still there. Not sure at this time if they'll allow me to cut off the gauge plug; thus, preventing them from selling an intact wiring harness. And, since I'm well known out there as the main G3 guy, I'd be the prime suspect if they found it cut and had a buyer for the entire harness.

Hey, Demid...saw that you are the proud owner of a '74 Elkie. Congrats!

I'll see what I can do on these parts. It's not normally practical to get anything on the underside of these cars sitting in the junk yards as there is no way to crawl under them. However, I was thinking of asking if they will lift the El Camino SS so I can get the dual hump crossmember. Could get the support bars at the same time.

I don't normally have much luck with good battery trays around here due to rust. Repro trays are available for around $49 (plus shipping) at The Parts Place...but, that probably doesn't do you much good over there in Russia. I'll see what I can do.

))) thank you for congrats!

Sorry, I thought you bought the whole car and can take off what you want. In this situation sitting in junkyard if you have a chance please look if no chance its ok.

I contacted Partsplace, they ship to Russia but they don't have trays in stock now and don't know when will have.

And what about heater frame? Is it possible to look if it's in good condition on this car?

Thank you

I'll check on the heater frame and gasket. The dash is out, so it's in plain sight. If not, there are plenty of other cars to check out. I'll have to work around the Holiday schedules (and the weather), so you'll have to be patient.

Thank you very much. These parts are not the first needed. I'll wait.
As for the frame I think gaskets are all dead from time. If there will be only plastic foundation it will be great too. Mine is cracked in around 10 places. I didn't see any reproductions on those.

Yes, all GM A bodies use the same hinges.   But I'd recommend rebuilding them before using.    Better yet, rebuild yours.   Cheap and easy.
