That second picture speaks volumes about the port differential.

No, these are the original heads. The engine was untouched when I tore it down. Still had the original factory steel shim head gaskets and my machine shop confirmed that all the measurements (bore, crank, rods) were standard size. The cast mark indicates "74" which would be correct for a 75 engine. Here's a pic of the casting marks.

I would still put the intake on. It’s no worse than the rectangle port intake on and oval port head.

Re: This SE Now Belongs to my 18 year old daughter now LOL
The 236 castings are the best flowing of the Peanut Port heads, the runner size is 209cc where the typical Peanut Port is 195cc. In comparison the Vortec 454 head is 235cc and the 781/049 are 256cc - the 781/049 are almost identical, the 781 has a slightly better intake port and the 049 has a slightly better exhaust port.
The 236 would be an excellent head on a mild 396/402, they are not bad on a mild 454 but give up about 1500 RPM sooner than a stock 781/049. By adding 2.19/1.88 valves to a 781/049 you pick up 50 HP, and can get another 50 HP by blending and mild cleanup porting!

I wouldn't waste the money on changing the exhaust valve on these heads. I ran 2.35/1.88 valves on my 1000 hp 565. If it can flow enough on a 7500 rpm engine, a 1.72 can flow enough on a street engine. The exhaust is under high pressure so the gases WANT to get out of the valve. I have run the 781 heads on a .060 over 396(408) with 2.19/1.88 valves because I had them out of my old race heads and made 500 hp at 6500 rpm with them. This was with a small flat tappet cam of .574/.588 lift.

Consider the stock 454 cam has 193* intake duration and 203* exhaust duration (@ .050") the Summit 1301 is a big step up. Stock cam with Peanut Port heads only makes noise above 3500 RPM - torque is long gone. The Summit 1301 is an RV cam meant to make torque, not high end HP, your setup should yield close to 400 HP and 500 lb/ft of torque - tires will scream for mercy!

Re: This SE Now Belongs to my 18 year old daughter now LOL
Well I have finally decided on the scoop to add on I have a glass hood I am bonding it to its a pin on hood BUT gonna use Camaro 3rd gen hood supports if it Holds a steel Camaro hood it will have no issues with a fiberglass Hood.
Also the glass hood has no rear Cowl vents on it, So the scoop will get all the Air from the G SPOT of the windshield, Also Have to get the Other Cragar Style wheels mounted I needed rotors anyways why I wasn't worried about snow being packed around a bare rotor

Maybe either weld up the ornament hole or fiberglass it closed when you do the hood. Very easy.
