73 SS Fuel Gage pegged. Empty 73 SS Fuel Gage pegged.

With the instrument cluster out of the vehicle the fuel gage of my 1973 Chevelle SS is pegged well past the full mark. Has anyone experience this? Before I start replacing parts I though I would ask for suggestions.

Thanks,

Jeff

Sounds normal to me. Usually that is the sign of an open circuit when troubleshooting an installed gage, so it makes sense if it does that off the car.

I've got one  in a cluster that's sitting on the shelf at just over a 1/4. I don't know if being in or out of the cluster makes any difference (I doubt it)
it only takes a few minutes to pop it in and out. I would try it before you buy new parts. it might have had a full tank when it was removed.
