Kyle 1973 GMC Sprint SP 454
I'm excited to finally share my new project, a 1973 GMC Sprint SP 454! This Sprint has 38k original miles, and estimates are that it is approximately 1 of 71 SP 454s produced in 73.
You may have seen this 73 SP for sale a few years back on various sites and eBay. Here is a link to one of the ads: https://barnfinds.com/1973-gmc-sprint-sp-454-the-other-el-camino/
My good friend purchased it, and completed part of the restoration including the repaint in the original Green Gold Poly and replacing the original white vinyl top with a fresh OEM-style one. I am excited that I now get the opportunity to finish the rest of it. I have the front and rear bumper fillers to install, as well as the side SP stripes. I can't wait to see it striped sitting next to my Dad's black 77 El Camino SS that he bought new in 77.
Our plans are to keep it fairly stock, save for the wheels, radio, and maybe a few accessories like a bed mat or tonneau cover. The 454 is original, though my buddy did have to replace the cam, as it was flat when it arrived form Texas. Even the AC works!

Very nice looking Kyle. It looks like there's more than 2 El Camino's in the stable. The wheels look like they should have come on it.

Its a very small world Kyle. This is a Sprint that was located 20 miles from me when I spotted it on ebay a year or so ago. I was out of town at the time and never got a chance to look at it in person. This is definitely a great find. Congrats! Btw, did you receive the parts I shipped?

I hope he went through the engine and didn't just replace the cam. If he did, you will be going through the engine soon because all that metal is still in it.

Very Nice! Did you paint your grill gloss black? Mine has the original unpainted finish. I would like to paint it but I am afraid of it peeling off over time then it would be a mess to try and fix.

Here's the original ebay listing when I was following it a few years back. What a great original and super rare vehicle.

Re: Kyle 1973 GMC Sprint SP 454
If my memory is correct someone on here in the last couple of years was building a 73 Sprint with the 454. I remember the 1 of 71 statement but don’t remember anything else about it. Wonder how many of the 71 are left?

The Sprint has come together quickly! I finally took it to a show, and took a few pictures when I got home.

Looks great! What car show did you attend? Where did you get the bed mat?

I got the bed mat off eBay. I really like the pressed logo, but the mat is not as thick as I hoped it would be. I know I can't be picky since its a Sprint. I attended a show in Independence off 40 Hwy near Cool Crest - its a small speed shop.
