On my 75 Laguna I remember the Y-ground strap on the engine to hood and firewall...But, for the life of me I can't remember where the remaining one went exactly. I'm thinking chassis to body, but, not sure. Anybody know? Thanks

My bone stock '77 Monte has that. Was never really sure that was correct until S3SS confirmed it.

My current El Camino does not have it, but I know either my first 77 El Camino or my 74 Malibu did. Found a picture online from a 77 El Camino.

So is this a 3rd strap? You have the one going to the hood and engine also?

Now I’m wondering what the previous owner did to mine. I only have one strap running from the back of the passenger side of the engine to the firewall. S3SS, do you have a closer picture of the mounting locations.

Since bad grounds sell a lot of un-needed parts, I added some grounds to my '75, like another body to frame, another body to engine, and another one to have a good ground on the core support, where headlights are grounded on some models..  Ground for the dash components is located at the bottom front/left  side of the dash where it bolts on.  I used a slightly longer stainless bolt there, with room to add any future grounds...

Thanks for the pictures. I will keep my eye out for one of those that goes to the air cleaner. Previous owner did a lot of strange and unneeded changes. When I got the car, I thought it either had a bad battery or a week starter. After changing both, it still started very slowly and sometimes not at all. After pushing back in the garage I thought that I had made a huge mistake by even buying it. While putting on the starter I realized that the positive cable had a burn mark in, so I replaced both cables. Still bummed about my purchase, I was talking to my brother in law at a birthday party about my problems. I mentioned something about the negative cable and he stopped me mid sentence and said you can’t ground it to the frame you have to go to the motor. Why the previous owner move it to the frame is unknown. I came home around midnight, with my wife holding the flashlight moved the negative to the alternator bracket. WOW, what a difference that made. That’s been about 18 years ago and that cable still has the ugly bolt that I found in my toolbox that night. It is true that a bad ground can cause a lot of unneeded parts and headaches

In the old days, the AM radios picked up all kinds of noise from the engine compartment. Adding a ground to the air cleaner was one of the factory's
"fixes' for noise control on the AM band. Of course, all the other grounds are important also, for radio noise and keeping everything working...

Never too many ground wires. One ground strap that so many people don't know about, or forget to add is when they move the battery to the trunk. Most will just run a ground strap from the battery to the frame and call it good. You really need to also run one from the engine to the frame also when you move the battery to the trunk.
