REVINKEVIN wrote:I would bet that if you could get headers and a good dual exhaust on there, with a little carb work, that the car would pick up around 50 hp. If you added just a mild cam with it you might see 75. Now if we added a complete top end kit and some 10:1 pistons...
Ya know, one would think that you're trying to turn me into a horsepower junkie...

Hey 77camino, I just posted a new thread showing a demo of these lights. Hope this helps.

Re: 1975 Hurst Olds W-30 Build
nice score G3chevy. i had a 69 442 W30 4-speed car. i sold it around 10 12 years ago. that hurst olds, by that time, was more aimed at luxury, more so than performance. they were still great cars, and ran good even with a low-compression 455. unlike the pontiacs, the olds big blocks respond to compression increase, either with older cam designs or newer. where 400-455 pontiacs are real happy at 8.5-9.0 to one, especially with newer grinds like the comp XE line, crower, and, even the old 061 ram air III grind.
supercarsunlimited out in oregon do all oldsmobile engine stuff, edit miller racing and joe mondello are also good sources.

Yeah, the 68-72 cars are much more desirable than this era. I bet you wish you still had yours. This one I found has enough rust to keep me busy for a while. In the process of finishing the floor pans in the next week or so. They were notorious for rusting out from leaking t-tops. Then its onto the rust that was created by the vinyl roof. I'm sure I'll find more as I go. The engine runs as smooth as any of my new vehicles and has tons of low end power. It just flat-lines above 3000 rpm. I'll address that later.

Oh you can have it. But it comes with a mostly complete car attached to it.

no, G#chevy, i really don't miss mine. a 69 W30 4-speed car was no daily driver street car. that 328/348, 104/106 duration/lobe separation cam, with close ratio muncie trans, and 4.33 dealer installed gears, made for a very temperamental, twitchy, hard to deal with in traffic, brute. when W30 and 4-speed were checked of in 69, the only options you could have were power steering, and light/trim groups. that's it. no a/c, no power anything.. although, it was a blast to drive, it too was quite rusty, and, was time for something else......
while, im a huge mopar fan, i have a side-line buick GS fetish, and still currently own a tired 74 century gran sport stage 1 car, and a well beat 73 century gran sport K-code 350 car as well. ill never live long enough to get to them all....lol

That was the price we paid back in the day for brute force horsepower. With today's technology we get to have our cake and eat it too.
Love to see some pics of the Gran Sports. A friend of mine is restoring a 73 Stage 1 Riviera that is not a GS. Didn't know they did that.

Looks good. When do I need to come over and help you out? I am pretty good at talking while I watch other people work.

Then that's perfect. I'm real good at listening while I stare at the car and wish it to be done. Come up anytime. I'm working on this rust bucket everyday.

Re: 1975 Hurst Olds W-30 Build
I hope you are very patient, cause this is going to take a while since the rust fairy was more than generous with this back window area. Btw, thanks for your help last week removing all 50 pounds of that bondo on the back of the car. And I did make a little progress from last week.

I am actually looking for a complete exhaust for your car. Headers and duel exhaust would be a great birthday present for you.

Ha! The birthday present was removing all that weight from the filler and not creating a 6 inch layer of dust in the shop!

If it was, its certainly not to scale. And I doubt there was enough "Linda Vaughn" to go around.

Re: 1975 Hurst Olds W-30 Build
Well in between distractions like Can Ams and working on my daily driver, I've been chiseling away at my check list on the Hurst. The Can Am is now somewhat roadworthy so it's going on the back burner for a while until this Hurst is done. Finished the floor pans a while back and now finishing the metal work around the back window. Here's a video I put together of the progress on the floors.

Nice work!
I'm always jealous about people's welding skills. I'm hoping to get a new project within in the next year and need something with less metal work.

Thanks Hawk! I wouldn't exactly call them welding skills but it does get the job done. The more I do the less it looks like a novice did it. The metal around the back window is looking more respectable for sure which is a good thing since that part isn't covered by carpet lol.
What do you have your sights set on for a new project?

Love that Hurst shifter! Funny too, that I bought a white ball shifter knob for mine. Great minds think alike lol.
