My Route 66 pics+story, Sep 09; Drive South, Nov 09

For 2009, my "major" drive was along Route 66, September 5-19. I also had a Thanksgiving weekend getaway to Tennessee and Alabama, complete with a few Route 66 stops in Illinois. Pictures of both trips are now ready...ENJOY!


** ROUTE 66 STORY **

In the midst of preparing my Route 66 pictures, I started writing a story about Route 66, which, for whatever reason, has been VERY easy to write. Hey check it out, you took a shot of Rainbow Bridge! The only remaining pics I have of my original 76 were taken there, including the big smoky burnout shots! If you remember going down that road almost into town there's an intersection that just happens to be exactly 1/4 away from the small bridge leading into city limits.... that used to be the local street racing site back in the day.

How'd you like Cafe on the Route? My grandfather owned it back in the early eighties when it was called Murphy's. LOL & how about that blue whale, huh? I read in a newspaper article a couple of years back that they planned on re-opening it as a swimming hole, but I guess nothing ever came from it. Your pics from Joplin to Tulsa opened my eyes. I guess seeing most of this stuff on a daily basis, I don't really take much time to enjoy the beauty of it. Thanks.

So ... where are those pics of your '76 at the Rainbow Bridge???

Cafe on the Route was cool, though I didn't eat there ... just stopped to check it out. I really liked that Blue Whale ... MUCH cooler in person ... lol.

cool pics. . . . I recognize that Bellemont AZ pic, thats the Harley Davidson shop. . . My brother lives not that far from there.

This is on the North side of the bridge, although you can't see it in the photo. You can see the big curve on the road where "Rainbow Bridge Road" splits off directly behind the car. I had a better shot with the car's rearview showing the bridge too, but I've lost it over the years. I do have another pic, but the car is engulfed in smoke lol. Plan on an updated pic with the new 76 in the near future.
