Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
Finally got the whole frame blasted...Next time I'll just pay to have it done..lol sprayed the full thing with Valspar epoxy primer reduced to a sealer.
stripped the rear end and sealed it.
and splashed some black Poly on it.

LOL we called that the stink bug stance..lol It was a sign the owner had no clue.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
Body is back on the frame, and The engine is test fitted.
Thanks to D I have nice new body mounts...
Doing a major cleaning up on the garage I slid Melba taost over to the side some more So I can do some engine swapping on my trucks.
I also Broke two on my harbor freight moving dollies..lol They where holding alot more than the 1,000lb capacity limit when they let go. So I patched em up and made em bionic.
Started drilling out the inner bucket seat mounts I cut out of the 94 caprice... The new Harbor freight sport weld cutter is the bomb.
took about maybe 5 min.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
Harbor Freight stuff in general is the bomb. I've used their $25 sawzall to cut through exhaust, aluminum, an old privacy fence, & even small trees. That tool alone converted me over & now I shop there for most of my tools.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
I bought a harbor frieht grinder put a cutting wheel on it and five minutes later it was smoken.. Every one i have bought has crapped out on me. Even the secound grinder on the same project then i barrowed one from work and got the job done.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
The quality of Harbor Freight items seems to be hit or miss; depending on the item. I usually stick to specialized tools that I wouldn't expect to use more than a few times and don't want to spend more than I have to on them.
By the way, ever wonder what that funky smell is when you walk inside a Harbor Freight store? Chinese rubber. I sold molded and extruded rubber products for years and some of our products came from China. Something they do (or rather, don't do) in their processing that causes this smell. I lost several customers because they just couldn't tolerate the odor on their assembled products. There...how's that for a bit of worthless trivia?!

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
I have a cheap chinese grinder I got from northern, ever since I have had it it sounded like it had rocks in the gearbox..lol Bad thing is after a few years of use its starting to quiet down a little.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
I have never seen anyone else have an engine walker like that! My brother has one and it works awesome! Is that a tool that you've had for a while or did you recently get that? My brother's was loned out to someone who cut the end bracket off of one of the cables, so he made a new bracket and used 2 cable clamps to hold it in place. But I know he would like to have a new one that is not all jacked up. I think his came from a Carlisle swap meet from back in the 80's and we haven't seen another one since then.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
I got one. They are pretty much a standard when trying to remove an engine being as cheap as they are to buy. Of course there's always the old A frame set up and also the come-along tied to a tree, but those aren't really as easy/safe.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
So far, I've had good luck with the few Harbor Freight I have, like a small router and an electric plane, and a 650 ft lb impact wrench. My 4 inch grinder is a serious tool though, a Porter Cable. Doesn't pay off to buy a cheap grinder.

Re: 1977 Impala coupe rescue
that one looks pretty damn sweet! i hope it doesnt make you give up on the other one though, after all the work youve put into it already. ive always liked these cars. a buddy has a 77 2dr caprice that he refuses to sell me, yet hes too damn lazy to do anything with it. been sitting close to 10 years now, im sure it will just sit and rot away.
