Re: My 9c1 Caprice
Chalk up another score for me. L89 350, 700r4, big sway bars, 3.42 open rear, oil cooler, HD radiator, & probably more stuff that I don't know about. I'm only going to say this: I didn't pay near the asking price & drove it home on an hour long trip with no fuss.
Oh yeah.... she'll lay the rubber down too!
I'd say I'll get some pics, but the body is fairly rotten. The chassis is good & the interior looks great other than some minor stains, so I think it was just parked under a sappy tree or something. It was bought new for the Missouri Highway Patrol & used until 1999 when the previous owner bought it & drove it for a few years. It was then parked for the last couple years & sold to me. Time to start tearing this one down for the stuff I need & sell it to make some money back. No time for parting out, just need to sell it in a couple of weeks or scrap it.

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
You seriously don't want them. Imagine dark blue with a rust colored hood, roof, & spots of rust on the doors & trunk. The quarters are gone & to top it off, there are some 1970's F ound O n R oad D ead truck hubcaps on it with whitewall tires.

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
How is the dash pad? and did you mean L98? if so its wrong, L98 is the tpi engine from the camaro and corvette back in the 80's , cop cars either had the LM1 with a 4 brl carb, or the LO5 with a TBI on top. , but the cop car LO5's got the l98 roller cam, and bigger injectors than the 350's in the trucks and flat top pistons instead of the normal dished pistons. This is the one I had in my 90 caprice I swapped a set of big valved 305 heads on to . Ran like a striped A$$ ape..lol damn thing would leave a black mark a 1/8th of a mile long..lol
Kick myself for selling it, It was clean as hell.

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
Yeah I'm getting mixed info on what motor is in the car. To me it looks like any other L05, but I keep getting told it's an L98 with TBI slapped on top. Thanks for setting the record straight. Sure doesn't feel the same as most swirl port motors though. Even needing a tune up this thing has some balls.
So essentially it's an L98/L05 frankenstein motor then? Either way, it's getting dropped into the 76 (probably with a better set of heads) & I'll go from there. Wouldn't mind swapping over the entire TBI system, but it seems like too much hassle for so little to gain over a small carb. What 305 heads did you run? I'm guessing the 416s or 601's.
The dash is cracked, but most everything else looks good & has the certified speedo. Just a lot of rust on the body.

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
It's a 1990. Double checked the SPID & found the 9c1, L05, & GU6 codes. Not sure if there are any others I need to look out for though.
It pretty much looks like yours but blue/rust colored without the pushbar & with whitewalls. Someone filled in the spotlight area poorly & filled in one of the two holes near the trunk, also very poorly. I'd be tempted to drive it for a while if it weren't so damn rusty & if I could throw my Vette wheels on it.

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
What do you plan on doing with it? Beating the piss out of it until it croaks? That's what I would do.

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
can't run vette wheels with out adapters, the 9c1 cars got the 5x5 truck bolt pattern. does it have a little gauge cluster in the dash with a oil, water. and volt gauge? like this..

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
I knew about the wheel situation. I was just saying IF I could run them I would drive the car. Kyle, my plans are to probably pull everything that I can & swap it over to my 76.
Jim, that was the first thing that I looked for when I jumped in the front seat. Unfortunately it doesn't have them, just the 125 mph speedo. That one on Ebay looks cheap enough to buy though.

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
Thanks. As an update, I ended up cleaning the car to find out that 90% of the massive rust was just A LOT of surface rust seeping through a very cracked paint job. Apparently it sat under a sappy tree or something. The lower rear quarters are rotted away, but the rest of the body is OK. After initial clean up, I decided to keep her as a back up DD. Need to fix the speedo, get a new dash pad, sand her down & respray. Other than that, the interior is damn near immaculate & it runs like a champ. Oh yeah, the air bags still work BTW.

Here's some pics I took today. Notice the rusty hood & roof. Yeah, the entire car looked like that before. Much better without the Furd Truck hubcaps too.

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
Just think that I almost pulled it apart & scrapped it. The interior was it's saving grace. Still needs sanded down & painted. I might just sand it down, fix the rust, & shoot a couple layers of primer. Don't really feel like putting in the work of getting the body perfect for paint & then having to wet sand & then having to clear coat.
You know Kyle, if you are THAT jealous, it is for sale. LOL! I usually only keep vehicles for 4-6 months before getting something different (Brown Eye excluded).

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
Wise man once said "pass up those years of Monte". My dad bought one off of the dealer floor. Less then a year later he traded it off. Headlights were temperamental, trim pieces were falling off, & a few other irritating things had already started up.
To give you an idea of how he treats his cars, he bought a 95 Z28 when it was two years old. He kept it in the garage at all times, but still hand washed it once a week. He has owned a 99 Tahoe for about 11 years. It now has nearly 400,000 miles & still runs like new. His cars lead a very pampered life.

Re: My 9c1 Caprice
Funny. My mom had an 01, she has an 03 now, my grandma has an 02 and my uncle in Florida has one too. Can't remember the year though, but it's that generation. And not one trouble at all with any of them.
No car is perfect. They're going to have trouble eventually. Hell, I've had a few problems with my 98 MC. Gotta fix another one today. Would it ever steer me away from them? Never.
