You'll love the poly locks! Once there're set they will not back off. Hope you used hardened pushrods with the guide plates and some good studs ARP, I broke Manley ones had to go up to 7/16 " in my small block .

Magnum rods & new slightly shorter studs were from Comp Cams.

It sounds great! I seem to remember it wasn't all that long ago that it was driving you crazy when it wouldn't run. And I'm still diggin' the homemade engine test stand. Smile

Necessity (or a thin wallet) is the mother of invention (or improvisation).  Very Happy

Thank you Steve.  I don't give up easy, LOL.

Chris- Good-eye!  I used the hood cable in order to have throttle control away from the motor.  A little 18 gauge copper wire connecting the cable & throttle & it was good to go. There's a good 3" of play in it, so plenty of room for acceleration. Tied it off w/ zip ties on the bracket & down the side on the engine cradle also.

One more loud one w/ no exh. pipes Twisted Evil  (Camera sux- better sound w/ headphones).

Still need to adjust final timing.  Any tips there?  I might invest in a new set of plug wires along w/ new module & rotor assembly for the dist. Sound blatantly advanced or behind to anyone?

Did you ever  consider a msd ignition?...best of both worlds, power and economy.  Beer

I've never used an MSD ignition system, but use their modules in the stock HEI housing, and didn't have any problem with 7 grand on the tach, with an Accel Super coil on top.

Thing is though MSD means Mutiple Spark Discharge, meaning not just one spark to ignite the mix, but a bunch ! Very Happy
For an modified engine, it's a good idea. For a stocker, it's a waste of money. We don't need an MSD for 5500, but it would likely make it run better.

I'm running an MSD box for my set up and it's a world of difference and continuos reliability. Plus I can run a wider plug gap. I still kill plugs but the ignition system is great.

An MSD system will clean up the idle with the multiple sparks. Beyond 3000 rpm, it really does nothing for gains. I will say that an MSD ready to run distributor is a nice piece though for a street car. Requires no box, usually has a rev limiter included, and has the advance adjustability to set your curve and rate to whatever you want. I had the 8360 in my Nova, and set the rev limiter to 6800, and was able to set the total timing to 36 degrees and initial at 18 all in by 2800 if I remember. I ran a 6AL box in my Chevelle and went 9 teens with it. I swapped to a 7al2 and saw zero gains. So if it is running clean, I would not worry about it.

I was thinking of this set up.  (Eventually).  Pretty simple & probably a huge improvement over the $80 (when new) pos I have.

Personally, I'm not sold on replacing the dizzy, since I don't believe it would make any difference on my mild combination.
