Re: 1977 Chevelle Malibu Classic Progress Photo's aka Mali
I think you did good on your dash repair. Some of the dash vents are available new. Not cheap, but about 28 bucks each for the ones I bought. I still have some used ones also.

Re: 1977 Chevelle Malibu Classic Progress Photo's aka Mali
Thanks Bill. I got some big plans for the dash, not done yet. The repair to the the vent support was with some JB Stick epoxy. It cost pennies, literally & I formed it on there & shaved it smooth with some small files. The hardest part was getting the little vent louvers back in correctly with out them coming out of alignment. The assembly is drying now & I got rid of the chrome & the chrome "pinstripe" around the outside opening. Going all black like the look of the drivers side. Will post some after pics later.
The dash was in terrible condition, but salvageable & better than the one that came w/ the car. I never did take real "before pics" but it was a very involved process. {I'm thinking about doing dash customizing as a side business eventually.} I bought a dash cap but am not using it. Very disappointed with the fitment. There was at least a 3/4" gap at the end near where it would butt up to the windshield and I did test fits on both dash pads I have. If it weren't for that I would have used it as the quality was decent.

LOL- You'd save big on shipping! I'm hoping to have mine done by end of next week. I'll post a pic & you can judge. I'm not doing anything "fancy"...just cool.

Here's the bezel after cleaning. Still needs to be painted & some small touching up.
The acrylic was "polished". Lots of scratches but got it to an acceptable level. Smaller ones need more work & were worse than the larger. I've already got about 4 hours into them.
Oh, & this is done too.

Re: 1977 Chevelle Malibu Classic Progress Photo's aka Mali
Well scored some gauges for the old gal. I think these may have come out of an El- Camino (not sure of year?)...JB, Pila...any insight?
The pod is not in the best shape & needs a little work & the C-board....well, we'll see (take a look-LOL). Does anyone have a pic (or can post?) of the correct oil send and/or temp send unit with the proper harness connections? I'm guessing I'll have to make some mod's to the harness & wires in the pin connector behind the pod. All & all I'm pretty content with it as the faces are in excellent condition. Interestingly, take a look at the fonts on these two clocks- the 1st is from the 73 M/C idiot light set I picked last year & the 2nd came w/ this set.

Re: 1977 Chevelle Malibu Classic Progress Photo's aka Mali
the cluster you have is from a 75 elky monte chevelle.speedo only goes to 100.
the fonts on the clock (cluster) were different. 73/74 were the same (skinnier),75-77 were the same (bolder). did not matter if idiot lights or gauges.
you only need to switch out the temp sender.
the oil light STAYS an oil light when switching to gauges.

Thanks Chris, (I see the oil & brake light)....was misinterpreting engine temp for PSI...LOL. I think I'm going to do an oil PSI Gauge where the clock should be.

ALL IS LOOKING GOOD,,,, I WENT FROM LIGHTS TO THE GAUGES AND DID GO TO THE BOOK TO CHECK THE ELECTRICAL DIAGRAMS AND DID HAVE TO SWAP PINS ON THE PLUG GOING INTO THE CLUSTER TO ACCOMMODATE THE GAUGES, TAKE YOUR TIME TO FIGURE IT OUT, NOT HARD TO DO JUST TIME
CLUSTER WAS OUT OF A MONTE AND THE SENDERS NEED TO MATCH, DID THIS BACK IN THE EARLY 90'S
GOT YOUR NEXT MESSAGE
AND THAT'S WHY I WENT TO BOOK TO CHECK THE WIRING, DIDN'T WANT TO FRY THE CIRCUIT BOARD
I BELIEVE YOU CAN GET EITHER CIRCUIT (LIGHTS OR GAUGES) THROUGH OPG IN SOUTHERN CA.

Thank you...it's been a long road. I have a feeling that it's going to be a pain in the neck, especially since I'm not too sure about the circuit board. I've seen the boards on a couple of Elkie sites for about $80.00 just have to verify the part # will match what I've got.

Looks like your making good progress.
I can't believe how solid the body is being from the north east.
I wish mine was that solid when i started my resto.

Thanks. She cheated time a bit (Born in Baltimore & spent most of her days in NC). The car had been out in the elements in NH for about 2 years before I bought it.

Still working on the dash. Had a small set back & had to make some minor modifications to strengthen the pad. Took a break from that & took a nice pic of the old gal this afternoon. 1st time she's had the cover off this spring.

Thanks Steve. I'll post a pic after they're painted. My intent is to pull the Engine & Trans out together for paint as well as doing the the engine bay "rehab" when they're out. Just gotta finish that darn dash first but I'm about 80% there on that. I started prepping the rear bumper filler you found me and I sanded the louvers some too.

@ Mcarlo77
They are almost ready though....
Just have to do some wet sanding & minor filling w/ glaze. The trim bezels are in super shape! Some A$$ @ the USPS musta dropped the box- I had to replace the adjusters as the clips got busted in transit on the brown one. Darn mailmen...LMAO.

Re: 1977 Chevelle Malibu Classic Progress Photo's aka Mali
Looks like it's going to look great with the singles up front. I wanted to put singles in my project too, but only have one side. Maybe I'll collect parts & switch them later. The quads are OK, but with singles it would match the front of my Malibu
Did you use stripper to get the old paint off ? Or did you sand it off ?
Bill
