come on PHR
ok, i got a phr mag. because i found it with the laguna build.
so first off he made an ok car in my opinion, it has a purpouse to show off nascar, BUT he used a great looking car to start with and made it look bad.
it says they cut the springs on it too!
also i think he stole the seats idea off of my fquick page to do list.
here are the pages.

Re: come on PHR
He said he was trying to make it a low buck project, but springs do not cost THAT much, especially if you take advantage of the huge selection of Moog springs available at Autozone and other places. I guess he could not get them donated for advertising purposes and got mad and just cut them. JB

That was a good looking car when they started. Not crazy about the outcome.

Re: come on PHR
They really needed to just build another street machine! It's so annoying that they felt like they "needed" a nascar theme.
It woulda been cool if they lowered it, put a big block in it, and threw some big ol' rallies on it. That woulda been perfect!
And I think they said they got quite a few parts from Global West for the suspension. Global West gave them a small fortune in suspension gear, yet they couldn't cough up some new springs??? I know they have them!!!

Although I'm mad about the idea, I do hope this brings enough attention to our cars so there's more aftermarket support...wouldn't hold my breath too much tho...

Re: come on PHR
wtf? Is PHR owned by a bunch of ricers now? Who in the F*** cuts springs for lowering. Springs dont cost that much! The simple fact that car will never hit any track because it wont pass tech. That is a huge safety problem.
I'm glad I canceled my subscription to that crap.

Re: come on PHR
To top it all off, you know they're gonna say some crap like "This car is such an awesome and original and great idea. No one has ever done something like this to 3rd gen A-bodies." Like someone out there hasn't gotten tired of how bad their disco A-body looked cause no one makes replacements and, of course, ABSOLUTELY NO ONE has painted there's flat black. So friggin' original.

Re: come on PHR
Truth be told, I had 2 huge problems with JH and his "Laguna Project"
1. He came to Chevytalk to 'get ideas' .... SUPPOSEDLY.
In actuality, he already KNEW he was going with the NASCAR theme, he just wanted to whip everyone into a frenzy, get lists of suppliers and free parts from all of us G3ers.
I was sad to see how he USED folks, while at the same time, dissing them.
I was amazed that no one seemed to get it and still tripped all over themselves to help him out.
(In the end, it was their call, I'm not hating on them, I just don't think they were well treated or THANKED for their help.)
2. Doc's ACTUAL site was completely left out, when for more than 11 years it has been THE DEFINITIVE site for G3 Chevelles.
I wrote a public post to JH offering up any info from Doc's site and from Doc's folders on the HD and was ignored.
Apparently JH felt he got enough response form all the 'guys'.
All in all, I do not agree with the NASCAR theme; I think it sets our G3 image back.
If I there is ANYTHING I can do to correct this, I will... I have removed the motor from Doc's Gooney and will be documenting all the changes I make to her.
We'll see who's article is a more realistic representation of what CAN be done (on a realistic budget) to our G3 Chevelles.
'Nuff said.

Re: come on PHR
These cars got some of the spotlight and I think thats pretty good. I would have painted it a nice color and di some simple stuff to it and showed that it can be like the earlier models. But at least it got something.Hopefully another mag will get in on them as well and do something more but we should support it because its the only one out there, Also with a quick white paint job it would look great.

Re: come on PHR
Wow, am I the only one who likes the NASCAR theme for the G3?
I agree that cutting the springs was bad, and i'm looking at wheels that dont require so much cutting of the metal. but from a guy that went to the 76,77,78 and 79 Daytona 500 and firecracker 400's, I like the NASCAR heritage of the G3 and will have at least one in my collection. Besides, I've always had a fondness for the old Hawaiian Tropic #1. The one they tried to clone for cannonball run.

Re: come on PHR
If they had actually painted it red like the Hawaiian Tropic car, that woulda made it ok. I think what sucks is that they put all that work into the body just to spray it flat black. I don't know why they're trying to go for that kinda look, but all that work getting covered up like that is about as usefull as a fork in Ethiopia.

Re: come on PHR
My thoughts exactly. I tried to persuade them not to paint it junkyard black, but like has already been mentioned, the guy already had his mind made up. Re: come on PHR
Wow, when I primered mine black 10 years ago, I thought it was cool. I guess times are changing. I do think that cutting coils is way beyond ANY mag. Come on, a few years back magazine's were scolding & snickering at cut springs... now they encourage it?
Wait, the one on Cannonball Run was replaced like 10 minutes into the movie with a Monte Carlo - yeah like I didn't notice.

They replaced it with a monte.... which one was driven into the pool?...lol
Didn't one of the other Mags do a story on a Chevelle that was done up as a NASCAR clone for the real #12?
