Oldsmobile ACRS.
Ran across this old picture/ad of an Oldsmobile with the ACRS (Air Cushion Restraint System) (air bags). Pretty neat.

Hal Needham, the guy who was the director in the Smokey and the Bandit movies is/was a stuntman, and did a promotional video for this --crashing a car into a brick wall.

Re: Oldsmobile ACRS.
Back in those days the best air bags were gals with some "cushions". The lass in the ad looks like she needs the ACRS. Where's Ms. Oldsmobile when you need her?

Might be the "generation gap" but I don't find them all that attractive. Not ugly, but not neck breaking. Killer legs though...

I think the gal on the right is very attractive :-) ( If i was single- I would not ignore the other 2 either).
Things were much different in the 70's but some carryover into the 80's when I grew up...I'm not THAT old.

Re: Oldsmobile ACRS.
The one on the left is nasty looking. Linda was hot, but that's not her best pic. The one on the right has nice curves.
Linda in a better pic:
Back on topic though, that's amazing about the Olds ACRS! Did it ever hit the production line? Any chance of an RPO or has anyone ever seen one in real life? I know Olds was a pioneer for several car standards, but never knew about the airbags.

I'm not 100% sure if it was production or not.
Here is a 1973 Impala with ACRS, as well:

Found a few things about it on the web:

Strange that I've never heard of this before, but I guess you learn something new every day right? Looks to have only been installed on the big boys in the mid 70's & wasn't a very common option (around 10,000 built).

Thanks for the PIC...do you have a larger size?.....droooooool......She looks a bit like Bo Derek in that one.
Those links are pretty cool, it's very interesting how rare these cars seem to be.
