Of places to go ... and sites to see Empty Of places to go ... and sites to see

Post by knightfan26917 Sat Mar 28, 2009 1:29 am

I've done a number of road trips to various areas of the US the last few years to meet people and see family/friends, but I have yet to "road trip" to these (among other) places:

US northeast ... Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, etc.

US northwest ... Montana, the Dakotas, Oregon, Washington, etc.

US Route 2

US Route 20

US Route 50

The Lincoln Highway

The Dixie Highway

US southwest via Route 66 ... THIS September!

Where all do you want to travel yet?

AND ... a couple months ago or so I posed these queries:
What do YOU consider to be "should see" areas/places in your home state? What would you tell travelers to check out, if they have the time, as they drive through your state? What "obscure" and "out of the way" places in your home state come to mind?

Below is a compilation of the answers posted in the original "home state sights to see" thread...ENJOY! Any that you'd add? [I've also been looking at the "Weird US" series of books ... interesting stuff ... might have to see/read those books!]

Cort, I see you love to travel. My wife was the same way, but I was always a "stuck in the mud" pulling all the overtime I could to pay her medical bills, non traveling type. I still miss her after all these years, especially after I retired. I am one very boring individual, but anytime anyone is passing thru Louisville stop by and say hello. I am in the phone book. I'm not a big fan of driving to a vacation spot, cause if I wanna get away, I wanna get the f away!!! Laughing

If I did get to go anywhere, I would love to go back to Honolulu and Oahu, Hawaii. I went there about 2 years ago for school related stuff, but now I wanna go back since I wouldn't need to deal with the school "adult supervision" junk. Probably the best get away of my life Cool

Hey JB ... yes, I do love to travel. If I could, I'd be on the road 24/7.... *sighs*

And, thanks. It'd be great to meet you in person. Next time I'm through that area, I'll try to remember to let you know Wink. I was in Louisville in 2007, en route to Lexington:

Hey Dan, did you check out the Packard service station in Afton, OK? Pretty cool. About a block away from that is 3 first gen Mustangs rotting away beside a garage under some brush. Shocked

Also on 66 in a town called Foyil, OK there is either the world's largest Totem Pole or Tee Pee, I forget which.

If anyone's into offroading or paintball, Wyandotte, OK has the world's largest paintball tournament & several miles of trails to ride at a place called D-Day Adventure Park. Look it up.
