Gas Prices
Prices for Reg. Unleaded have dropped to $3.13/gal. at my local Holiday station (Twin Cities, MN). Anyone else seeing this dramatic drop-off over the past couple of weeks? I know the official reason given for prices dropping at least $.75/gal around here is the switchover to the winter grade. But, I've never seen such a dramatic decline in such a short time at any other switchover. Not that I'm complaining, but what's really going on? Price of crude has only dropped maybe 5%. I'm not normally one to subscribe to conspiracy theories, but is this a ploy at election time to convince Americans that the economy is much healthier all of a sudden? Anyone care to weigh in on this?

Re: Gas Prices
$3.61 yesterday, down from $3.80 something from late last week. Man that's cheap up your way- I hear the election is much closer than most of the media is letting on in MN, WI, MI, PA & OH....makes me wonder too. Lower crude prices do not necessarily mean lower prices at the pump nor the seasonal grade switch. Last year when crude oil was $140-150/barrel the price @ the pump was cheaper. It's the futures market trading that affects the retail price (speculators) as well as current supply & demand & production by our "friends" @ OPEC.

Re: Gas Prices
Gas here in N.E. Ohio dropped from about $3.79 3 weeks ago to $3.17 last week, up around $3.29 today. I agree that its got something to do with election season. These guys have more control than you think. Maybe not directly but there is definitely some "gladhanding" going on somewhere. Don't worry, if you re-elect this guy it will be about $6 before you know it!

3.59 down from 3.69 a week ago. Nothing ever fluctuates drastically here.

Re: Gas Prices
I think it is more ap to be the lack of being able to supply all the hard hit east coast areas. You have to think about the numbers here. All the heating oil and cars that are not being used right now. Just a thought. Even so 75 cent drop is huge. Why do people think the President set gas prices. Its because of speculative investing in gas.

Re: Gas Prices
I dont think the drop, which we had too, is due to speculation, its too coincidental and it seems to happen right before elections ,Ive seen it before many times,im not trying to sound like a conspiracy theorist. Those jokers in DC have more influence then they let on.

We'll think $6.00 is a bargain if he gets back in.

Re: Gas Prices
I don't even like liquid natural gas...you read about homes exploding all the time from undetected leaks. That carries over in my mind weather it's a legitimate concern or not. They've been working on solar since the 70's...If it worked for cars, they'd be on the market. I'm guessing you'd need a 5,000 lb battery in order to get you 5 or 600 miles. Funny thing about electric cars, people forget they recharge from the elect. grid- it's a trade off if you think about it- what you save in gas you'll be spending on your electric bill. Not to mention being at least neutral for the "Carbon footprint". (Sarcastic emphasis added)

Re: Gas Prices
$3.10 today at the same station! Just very odd...but, I LIKE IT!! Just hope I and everyone else aren't being played for chumps just to swing the election voting. And, I don't doubt for one minute that there couldn't be forces at work that could influence the prices in order to take the heat off the President for the persistently high gas prices we've endured since he took office. Just like the unemployment rate reported last month that dropped a dramatic .3% with only 143,000 jobs created. There is simply no way that was mathematically feasible...yet, there it was...just in time to take some heat off before the debates.

Re: Gas Prices
They fudge the numbers all the time. They're not counting all those unemployed that have run out of benefits and have given up looking.
Bit of a rant: Sorry if this offends anyone- just how it's felt like the last few years for me & mine.
He who must not be named did say that he was going to kill the coal industry. He also thinks we should pay $5.00 gallon for gas (for my 18 gal tank that's- $90.00. I Avg 1.5 fill ups per week (work expense)....that's over $7,000/year. Gas affects transport costs which affect all consumable goods. & that will affect what you pay- no matter what it is. That doesn't even include the new health care law another $2,500/yr for the avg (middle class I might add) family. A "name-brand" loaf of bread in Boston is $4.00. Have you shopped for tires or a good battery lately? I bought & installed an 8 year battery for my mother in law today & it was $115.00!
Deflating the currency by printing too much money inflates prices as well. The dollar is loosing it's clout in the world & if it is replaced as the "trading currency" ...our goose is cooked. Do we really want to be just like every other Gosh-forsaken country? I don't.
EDIT: Sorry $4.19/Loaf

This country is self sufficiant. I live about 100 miles south of the largest oil find in US history and we are still importing oil. You do the math. POLITICS! thats all I have to say. Our country will be owned by outsiders before you know it. Half of it already is.

Re: Gas Prices
There are politics in every walk of life, and in every society. It's just that in these times, the real-time media and communications systems drag everything out in the open.
There were just as many crooks in industry and politics 100 years ago as there is now, but the public just didn't know !! Only the high profile robber barons made the news papers back then, like J P Morgan etc.
And politicians who promise $2.50 a gallon gas prices, are just blowing smoke, and they couldn't make prices that low even if they bought a refinery.
Developing societies like China & India are affecting oil prices ( gas) these days too, of course.
Only thing we can do is vote........

Re: Gas Prices
The lowest price here was $3.18, about ten days ago. It's been dancing between $3.29 and $ 3.59 lately. Don't know this for sure, but gas is traded just like grain and other commodities I believe, which is likely why the price changes every day ( or sometimes twice a day !! )
Our aviation gas went up about two weeks ago, from $5.60 to $6.14. So if ya have a Cessna 172 that burns about 9 gallons an hour, it's 55 bucks for a little one hour jaunt around the countryside.
I use it in the Malibu while it's stored in a hangar here, because it doesn't turn to crap like auto gas with ethanol does, over time. I run the Malibu around the airport about once a month, like down the taxi streets, through the gears a few times, to "clean it out".
Scared a few folks that wanted a ride....

Anthony- Don't be depressed. When push comes to shove I think you'll find that we are more resilient than not. You just wait until the House starts digging up the dirt on Benghazi & other things they've done & are doing.
The balance of power will shift in 2014 mid-term elections after people come to their senses & the realization of what is really going on.
