Re: 1973 SS
On the SS, the front grill is black.
The gauges in the dash are round.
The door panels have an SS on them, with a quarter woodgrain strip in the middle.
Also, SS cars came with either a 350 or 454 engine.
The rear end gear in the 454 was the 2.73. The rear end gear in the 350 was the 3.08.
The SS had the option of swivel buckets, or a bench.
The transmission options in the 454, was the Muncie 4 speed, or the automatic 400 turbo.
The SS has the striping that runs along the wheel wells.
The 1973 SS car that is worth alot of money is the factory 4 speed 454 car. Only 600 of them were made. I've seen them sell anywhere from 10k to 30k.
Hope this helps

Re: 1973 SS
well its looks real, but make sure you give it a good look in person, look for that rear lower bar, and tail lights. lots of people over look those when faking one.

Re: 1973 SS
I have my built sheet stating it's an SS and I have no chrome on quarter windows, no stripes and no black tail panel?

Re: 1973 SS
i wish there was a way to make sure this was an SS. but for $900 or less still not bad

Re: 1973 SS
Just called this guy and he knows nuthin about the car. Said they just got it in today. Asked if it had a TH350 and said he didn't know if it was turbo or not. LOL

Re: 1973 SS
Not an expert but by looks only I would say it's real. Not many people would go to the trouble to fake one on these cars. Stripes, console, swivel buckets, round gauges, SS badges. To much there to be a fake in my opinion.

Re: 1973 SS
The car, even if it is an SS, does look pretty rough. It definitely is worth $900; the swivel buckets in their condition are worth $250 alone. And it does have a title, that is big plus.
Keep in mind, to restore, it's going to take big bucks to get it where it needs to be. You'll spend 3 or 4 grand just to get the engine purring again.
My concern with this car is, it looks like it's been sitting. When you go look at it, get underneath it, to see if it has frame rot around the rear wheels, etc.
The dash looks like it needs redone ... that's not cheap. The seats as well. That could cost up to a grand.
Slap a few thousand dollar paint job on it.
And that's before you even dive into the rest of it ... brakes, suspension, rear end, etc.
A 350 SS, that is an automatic, fixed back up, have been bringing anywhere from 5k to 10k. So it's not something where you're going to make money, when you're done.
But if you're in it, to keep and drive, and chip away a little at a time on fixing stuff, then I would pull the trigger.
All of us hope, that these cars, the more rare they get, will continue to go up, up, up in value.

Re: 1973 SS
Everything looks real from those pics. Interior wise the dash emblem is correct, somebody redid the red areas on the doors and seats. Its missing the SS wheel. Only way to know is to have the build sheet. But for that price, I'd take it either way. I dont see many SS's with the black tail panel. Either guys dont paint theres black when they repaint or they dont have it at all. Mine had it when I bought mine and I like it.

Re: 1973 SS
I haven't seen the blacked out tail panel on any factory pics or documents, just the black trimmed tail lights. Mine does not have it (SS350), is it a big block only item?

Re: 1973 SS
I always wondered about it. When I bought mine in '82, I've seen them every so often. Mostly small block cars, I only recall seeing 2 big block cars back then. I always thought it was something that came on the cars. I also remember the 73-74 novas coming with the blacked out tail panel as well. I kept mine the satin black, always thought it looked good. Might be as the years went on and most were repainted nobody kept the black.

Re: 1973 SS
The Z15 RPO code on the build sheet will verify the SS. Without that it's a guessing game I suppose. Other things to look for are the bezel for the instruments which is black. Also 14 x 7 rally rims (6 vents) with those special trim caps & trim rings- 1 year only. From the pic they look like they might be correct.
Does that huge tire in the back seat come with the car? LOL
