That wreck at Daytona yesterday was unbelievable. I hope everyone recovers from the injuries. I've never seen a NASCAR with both the front and rear ends sheared off.
And on an unrelated note, every red-blooded American should be a Danica Patrick fan!

Im glad to hear she driving a Chevy too, that crash was terrible, the guy that got hit got the whole front corner of the car pretty much thrown at him, happend so fast too,there was a video on you tube ,not sure if its still there.

Can't say I've ever heard of an engine going past the fence. The track owners are under the gun about the safety of the fans now, from what's been said on the net. They shouldn't have touted how good it is/was before this unusually bad crash. These cars are a lot lighter than they were back in the 60s etc, so they sail through the air more frequently than in the old days, from what I've seen.

I can't understand how in the heck a fence (even with reinforcing) is expected to really protect anyone. Maybe there needs to be a bit more of a buffer zone or raise the stands up some more? I saw the video on youtube, pretty darn scary.

Spectator injury has been an unspoken known since cars have raced.
It happens; wheels/suspension/parts in the stands at Indy, Charlotte, and many others…
Look at the disclaimer on every ticket; you assume all liability once you enter the track.
The tracks know people will still come to watch.
They interviewed people coming into Daytona the morning; Stuff happens. We waited all year to see this race…

Congrats Jimmy Johnson!!! & Chevy (Did 3 or 4 Toyota's blow their motors with about 20 laps to go or was I dreaming?)

She appeared to check up on the final lap when a crash erupted behind her. NASCAR did not throw a caution flag.
"You needed a hole. You needed people to help you out," she said. "I had a feeling I was going to get freight-trained (if I went low)."
Patrick led a lap at the Daytona 500, not quite halfway through the 200-lap event.
She ran in the top 10 most of the day, and was running third toward the end of the race."
(psst....Danica- If you're in 3rd with one lap to go- you make your move when the lower lane car is 2 car lengths behind).

Most boring Daytona 500 ever! Single file all around all day. Been watching NASCAR since the 80's and this was by far a the SNOOZE FEST 500. Ambian should have sposored it.

they said that it was a super freak thing cause of the fact that there was a track gate right there and got that extra reenforcing to hold the gate shut.

The stands were fairly empty too, being a Nationwide race. Had this happened today with a packed grandstands, it probably would've been a lot worse

I think the majority of these drivers are still trying to figure out the new cars. Personally I like that they've gone back to a bit of a factory look. We'll see as the season unfolds I guess.

Make em have to work at it a little, they should really relax the rules and make em work a little harder at engineering the car too,it would make for more interesting racing and not a big pack. Or snooze fest.

danica was afraid that she would be left in the wind if she did went to jr to take them to 1-2 i think daytona 1 chase race and the homestead race should be done in old school cars 
that way they gotta work.heck even better a dirt race in stead of a road course with a ringer driver
